Bump again.

I downgraded my Windows 10-designed laptop (a low end Acer) to Windows 7 a few weeks ago: as well as an old Toshiba Satellite C660-2E2 which barely worked on 10 - results have been good and 7 is faster on both machines. My sister initally wanted to try to upgrade the Toshiba again since it's hers but has come to accept that it's more usable on 7. :)

In fact the Toshiba laptop came in handy since I needed to burn to a CD the drivers as USB 3.0 support isn't out of the box in 7 :(

going from 10 to 7 is an upgrade, not a downgrade

And going from Win7 to Linux is an upgrade, not a downgrade.

I imagine only with a little digital dirtywork there is, taking the updater and screwing with the programming so it doesn’t update.

Some are able to disable the Windows Update service.

I've never been able to do so on 10, but you may fare better. Go to services.msc and see if you can mess with the service's startup type.

i also love the whole "windows xp is obsolete" thing

windows xp is lightweight and can run my windows only programs in a vm with 512mb of ram so it's pretty good as far as I care

xp is alright but i would much rather recommend 7, XP may have gotten that new update after the wannacry attack, but windows 7 has better support for games i like and play

I’d use Linux because it’s like being in a sandbox everyday.

Are you joking - games would run like shit in a VM.

Oh, okay. ^^ Not sure what else to say otherwise.
But yea, XP is lightweight compared to 7 and some things still support it. Making it very ideal for Linux users virtualising it on lower end machines.

I use 10 on my gaming computer (which I exclusively use for gaming, Windows 10 sucks) and XP in a VM that I use for running Windows-only programs.

So painfully true...

...would've been fun to see a Part 2 where he disables the Windows Update service to lock Windows 10 out, lol

I hate how W10 condescends to the user and it honestly feels like a bunch of HTML/JS hipster-built apps cobbled together on top of the NT 6 kernel with unfitting and seemingly random interfaces that demands an always-on connection to mine your data.

Pretty much sums it up

Funny how people complain about W10 updates while on W7 there are like 5 updates a week, versus one per month at most on W10.
