This is a replica of the pre-alpha MKDS from E3 2004. It's WIP and I have a few things to do.
When started, its Name was "Mario Kart DS Alpha Mashup". It originally aimed to restore the GDC 2005 Alpha Version, however when I realized that the Kiosk Demo was closer to the GDC 2005 Alpha than Final, so I made that Alpha Replica into the Kiosk Demo. The Final Hack, was became a E3 2004 Pre-alpha Replica, thus Renamed "Mario Kart DS Pre-alpha Replica". Both this Final Variant, and the Kiosk Demo Variant, will be Released in Q1 2016. You can give this beta a try: https://kuribo64.net/get.php?id=m05rMacUbNfipwF4 Patch with XDelta. Get it here: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/ Version: Beta. Things may differ in the release. Release Date: Q1 2016. Screenshots: ____________________ You can't escape me. |

What did you base your ROM hack on? Are there pictures or screenshots somewhere? ____________________ |

So, I played this hack, and to be honest, I didn't really find it all that impressive.
There's a lot of key stuff that is inaccurate in this mod. If you were legitimately restoring the alpha version, there shouldn't be any actual music in the game, which according to the stock footage, clearly shows that any form of music was not present in MKDS's earliest of builds. The physics of the kart felt a bit tweaked (I'm not certain on that), but the final drifting is still there. The HUD looks pretty nicely done. I appreciate the fact that you added in E. Gadd, but he appears broken for me, and E. Gadd wasn't even in the alpha, hell his model wasn't even complete in the kiosk demo, so it probably would've made more sense if you just made E. Gadd use the Toad model/features based on what evidence we have in regards to any actual prototype. It's pretty neat seeing in the custom models you have, but I feel like a project such as this is rather pointless, considering the fact that we already have a kiosk demo in our hands, which by the way, basically has everything 'beta' on it a la debug menu. I'm not saying this project is incredibly bad, but it's definitely far from accurate. A lot more needs to be done on this mod. |

Yes I know that alpha is incomplete, however no music is boring. Also I didn't have a way to disable music, so I decided to use music. And the early MKDS in GDC 2005 had the title music from MK64. The E3 2004 version had a different GCN Yoshi Circuit and Standard Karts, also;
Chain Chomp was planned as an item; later reprogrammed as Bullet Bill E. Gadd and Birdo were planned as playable characters; the pink Egg kart that's found was possibly for Birdo About Courses: PLANNED: GCN Mario Circuit | Luigi Flipper | Pipe Place | DK Circuit | Koopa Troopa Beach | GCN Block City NAMES: old_mario_gc | luigi_course | dokan_course | donkey_course | nokonoko_course | mini_block_course REPLACED BY: DS Mario Circuit | Waluigi Pinball | Figure-8 Circuit | DK Pass | Cheep-Cheep Beach | N64 Block Fort I'm sure only for luigi_course and donkey_course, because they look extremely similar to Waluigi Pinball and DK Pass. I'm not sure about others. NEW PROOF: HEART ITEM Heart item from Mario Kart Double Dash was also going to be in game, because in MKDS Beta's SDAT file, SeqArc => GLOBAL_SE_COMMON, you can find 2 sounds: SEL_HEART and SET_HEART_ITEM_GET. They're used in MKDD for the Heart item but they don't play in-game in MKDS Beta. Their internal names show a proof that the Heart item was going to be in MKDS and possibly replaced by Boo, because both Boo and Heart have similar functions. ____________________ You can't escape me. |

If you want to see, I even re-created the GCN Yoshi Circuit from E3 2004 MKDS:

Posted by Ambiance 69 I know it seems boring, but if it's suppose to look convincing to a legitimate build restoration, it should be replicated identically, otherwise you wouldn't be able to call it a legit restoration. Posted by Ambiance 69 Ah, I see. not even importing a blank file over each music or deleting the sequence data could've removed it? Possibly hardcoded music etc? Also, the early build of MKDS did have the MK64 title music, but that automatically means it was in the 2004 build, which was incredibly vague and empty? Maybe restore the early '05 prototype? Posted by Ambiance 69 Interesting, though was there no evidence of either Birdo or E. Gadd existing in 2004 build, iirc. Posted by Ambiance 69 To be completely honest with you. As far as MKDS 'beta' restoring goes, I'd like someone to restore a visible menu on the debug screen of the kiosk prototype. That'd be both beneficial, and completely accurate. I could see it completely in command prompt format as well. |

Posted by CyberTanuki As far as E. Gadd is concerned: http://www.dshack.wiki/index.php/Beta_Characters However, how he got to Birdo, is a mystery. Yes, there is a Pink Egg1, but it doesn't mean there should be a Birdo in the Game. The inverse of Green = Pink, so it may have been used for Test purposes. Oh, and as far as the Courses go, all of the "Planned" Courses served solely as Test Courses (unless Nintendo had a different purpose, but we'll never know). |

Posted by Yami Posted by CyberTanuki Posted by Yami Yes, they were only test courses. The '04 prototype didn't even have the test courses, because the test courses were later level designs after the '04 build was presented for upcoming levels such as what became Waluigi Pinball in the long run. Also, any beta related restoration shouldn't be treated like a playable game either, considering that ALL prototypes/uncommon variation copies have features for debugging, unless it's some sort of public demo (even though the MKDS Kiosk Demo basically had the feature, but just hidden from easy usage). |

This is NOT a complete restoration. However, it will be BASED ON the E3 2004 version. Here's what I added E3 2004 stuff:
Item Machine (in the top-left corner, however I couldn't move it to center) Green Shell icon (that one looked slightly different from the Kiosk's version) Lap Indicator (in the top-right corner, however I couldn't move it to bottom screen) Place Indicator Time Indicator Racers List (I couldn't make the text orange till I can find a way to do it) Standard Kart Texture GCN Yoshi Circuit course (that one is VERY different from final) Here's what is based on GDC 2005 Alpha version: Title screen Character voice clips Here's what is based on Kiosk Demo version: Balloon Battle Balloon texture (battle is accessible in demo with debug menu) Nintendo DS Battle Course Here's what early leftovers I used: OBJECT FILES CrossTree1 (on Yoshi Falls & Delfino Square, found in Kiosk version) DeCactus1 (on Desert Hills, found in Kiosk version) NSCannon2, NSCannon and NSPipe 1 (on Airship Fortress, again, found in Kiosk version) FireBall (on wario_course, in both Kiosk and Final) Woodbox1 (on Peach Gardens, found in Kiosk) test_brock (found in Delfino Square and Bowser Castle CARC files, however I had to texture hack Bridge objects because replacing models will screw objects up) EarthenPipe1 & 2 from Choco Island 2 was also found. EARLY MAPS Desert Hills, Shroom Ridge, Tick-Tock Clock and Bowser Castle had their early maps, so I modded these courses accordingly to their early maps. MENU Screenshots of the Alpha menu can be found in Kiosk Demo. (Menu.carc) Modded courses: COURSES I modded Luigi's Mansion and SNES Mario Circuit 1 accordingly to those: It had smaller tires in the alpha. To not to leave them the same, I made some stuff on my own, and used them. ____________________ You can't escape me. |

Posted by CyberTanuki Your better off arguing with a brick wall. I told him the same thing when he was on DSHack. He thinks just because a Figure 8 Circuit tree was in Yoshi falls carc file that it was used and, that Red Fire recolors in the alpha menu means that MKDD karts were going to be in the game and, I already debunked that theory (You can see more details on that on DSHack.) they were simply place holder images for the standard kart. ____________________ MKDS Hacking & Modding Discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/CAktUYP |

Also, I'm adding some MKDD stuff because there's a proof that the MKDS as supposed to be based on MKDD:
http://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_Mario_Kart_DS_pre-release_and_unused_content#Menu.2FHUD Read the "Menu & HUD" section carefully. ____________________ You can't escape me. |

Posted by Ambiance 69 Personally, I don't think you know what you're doing with the project. Like I stated earlier, the only mod that would be necessary is a visible debug menu on the kiosk demo and a possible multiplayer restoration in the kiosk demo as well. |
