I open IE8 and see this:

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/companies/batterygate-how-apple-secretly-slowed-down-older-iphones-and-why-it%e2%80%99s-such-a-big-deal/ar-BBH8CKv?li=BBoPWjQ&ocid=iefvrt

Finally, Apple admit to throttling the battery on iOS devices. I'm going to show this to my dad at some point, maybe he'll reconsider about Android :P

Yeah, I heard about that Apple battery thing. The fact that they're doing it is insane, and they mightn't have even spoke up about it if it weren't for people noticing sudden slowdown.

If it makes you feel any better appearently Apple is getting sued for it... so yeah... that's a thing.

"throttling the battery"... what. Do you know how to read? Apple has slowed down the CPUs/power draw of older phones to avoid insane battery consumption and shutdowns due to overheating and far too high power draw compared to what the battery can provide.

StapleButter

No, but replacing the battery made the phone faster. Which means the phone knows how old the battery is and knows to throttle itself when the battery is 'too old'.

The proper way to go would be making the battery replaceable. The way Apple went mostly (if not only) serves to enforce planned obsolescence.

If I'm correct, there's a planned US law that would mame companies include instructions for consumers who wish to repair their items. States like Iowa and Kansas already have duch a law so that farmers can repair their equipment. It's also being proposed in New York but surprise surprise, lobbyists are against it.

And no, not everyone is androgynous on the holidays. :P

they could also pull the good ol' strategy of "crucial part that broke costs more than the device originally costed"

or generally making it a pain to obtain the parts

I wonder if instructions on to repair equipment are already easily available online. Hell, I looked online on how to get my watch syncing with the analogue clock and also how to clear the stopper in the sink so the water doesn't get backed up.

I nearly tore my AC today

It was a good choice not to go to a doctor directly after

'bout the christmas theme, it's "background-attachment: fixed;", I tell you! that thing is pure evil! it eats RAM for dinner! it almost ate ME for dinner!

should be easy to make the background repeatable/seamless with GIMP (if it isn't already)

It seems to mostly be unofficial DYI instructions though.

I had an air conditioner with a torn cable in my mind then realized it referred to the joint when I read "doctor". :P

heh.

also, Nadia/staple, could you check the ABXD repository? I pushed a commit to the readme listing what dependencies are needed for php which should help vps users. :)

unfortunately, I messed up and listed password_hash and php 5.5 as the minimum without reading the commits properly. if someone could push my maintenance mode thing and then fix that, then thx ^^

(and added a hacky maintenance mode thing, but heh)
