8. is used in multiplayer, I think.

Wario can pick up all characters (except himself because there is only one Wario cap).
Getting power-ups is not possible in multiplayer, though.

What exactly happens when you try and install it?

Also, you won't have much luck with SM64DSe in mono, you will be able to open and patch a ROM, but level editing is pretty impossible, if it behaves the same as on Linux, which I'd imagine it does.

It can't be unlimited. The amount of RAM in the DS is limited. The maximum ROM size a DS can handle is limited. Basically, everything is limited.

However, there should be quite a lotta room to use
Well, 256MB ROMs do exist, so there should be plenty of space

Well, you could use the DS memory expansion pack, though this would make it unplayable on a DSi/3DS[citation needed] and if you don't have that.

Or, you could use a simple texture of a circle, like how Minecraft does it.
