The text for the levels is in /MessageData/UsEnglish/SystemMessage.arc. If you need any help with SMG hacking just ask me! ;)

...I KNOW THAT ALREADY!!! I just wanted to know how to open those files!!!

Go here and look for Nuntius Novus. Well...msbtEditor and msbconv should work as well, but Nuntius Novus is my preference and personal recommendation.

...Ummm, Nuntius Novus allows you to edit the in-game messages.

I want t edit the names of the Stars. (i.e. I want to change Think Before You Shake (Flip-Swap Galaxy) to Flip-N-Spin.) How would I do that???

..Well, I've been moving around the Green Stars in the game, and I came across 3 problems that I don't know how to fix:

1. In Hightail Falls Galaxy, Green Star 3 does not appear on the Star Select screen, and the game doesn't count it as a Star. (It DOES appear in the Galaxy, however.)
2. I placed a Launch Star in Stone Cyclone Galaxy with a path, but the path appears WRONG in-game.
3. Not really a problem, but, how do you add a checkpoint to a Galaxy?

Thanks?!

1) looks like scenariodata is corrupted or something
2) how many points does it have? How is it "wrong"?
3) checkpoint = RestartObj (midway flag) or adding another "Mario" as a Starting Point.

1. The scenariodata for BigWaterFallGalaxy is corrupted?!?!?! How do I un-corrupt it???
2. The launch star in MadnessOnimasuGalaxy has points 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. It leads to a secret area where the Power Star is. However, the launch star (and the Power Star) don't appear until you collect all 5 Silver Stars in the galaxy. If you want, I can show you a picture of this...
3. I know that, but, what settings does the checkpoint need?? (I'm trying to add it to the small planet between Bouldergiest and Fiery Dino Piranha in the Boss Blitz Galaxy.)

1. It's not. You just did something wrong.

2. Cool. :P

3. RestartObj needs an obj_arg0 of the ID of the starting point.

1: What do I do wrong?
2: Actually, I just realized that the launch star and the path for it are NOT in the same zone... Oops!
3: Thanks for the info! :)

EDIT: How do I add gravity to a planet/zone in a galaxy???

Click Add Object > Gravity then choose one from the gravity category. Look in the Object Database for what type of gravity you'd use.

I meant: What settings does the "Local Planer Gravity Point" need???

Go to /LocalizeData/UsEnglish/MessageData/SystemMessage.arc.
Extract SystemMessage.arc and you'll get many MSBT files. ScenarioName.msbt has all galaxies scenario name, GalaxyName.msbt has all the names for the Galaxies and GalaxyNameShort.msbt has the short names for the galaxies. So edit ScenarioName.msbt with Nuntius Novus and you'll see "Think before you shake" somewhere.

What do I use to extract SystemMessage.arc ???

Open arcTools.exe and click "Extract an arc" and choose the arc you want to extract - SystemMessage. When you done that you'll see many MSBT files. When you're done and you have edit the ones you want, create a folder named EXACTLY "SystemMessage" and put everything you got when you extracted in the folder. Then open arcTools again and click "Repack an arc" and click on the SystemMessage folder.

You can find arcTools here in the category "Extracting & packing". The pack was made by SunakazeKun.

Thanks!!!

Try to just add one without any settings, if that doesn't work, try to look in other galaxies that have the same gravity and look into their settings.

Well, the gravity controller works! HOORAY!!!

But, the camera in the area/zone is screwed up. How do I fix that??

You'll have to edit that manually with Anarchy. Find it here. There isn't much documentation (AFAIK, go talk to rean) so you're on your own for cameras.

Oh... Well, OK...?

Another problem I encountered: I added a new section to Supermassive Galaxy where you have to collect Star Chips in order to create a launch star leading to the galaxy's Hidden Star. The problem is that the galaxy crashes everytime I select any Star from the menu. What do I do??? :( :( :(

UseResource isn't needed for an object to function.

Also, not to really be a backseat mod....but I think we're really offtopic :P

What's a backseat mod? Good point. Most of this thread has nothing to do wuth CleanRipping...wow.

Add an entry and name it "/ObjectData/YellowChip.arc

Well, I added the Star Chip (YellowChip.arc) and the Sling Star (SpinDriver.arc, SpinDriverShadow.arc, and SpinDriverPath.arc) to Supermassive Galaxy's object data... but the game is STILL crashing!!! What else is needed??? (My area/zone has the Supermassive blocks, star chips, launch stars, sling stars, a checkpoint with a starting point, and the galaxy's Hidden Star in it.)

Hooray! The galaxy successfully loads! The problem is that when you reach the area, the camera is glitched... and I don't really want to add a new camera to the area...

NEXT PROBLEM: I have another problem... Green Star 1 of the Hightail Falls Galaxy doesn't appear on the Star Select screen... but it appears in the galaxy itself. Does anyone know what causes this???

Did you change the text for the star name or edit the Scenario file at all? Those are the only 2 things I could think that might cause that.

The text for the Star name is "Green Star 1," and I moved the Green Stars in the game to all new locations... and all the other galaxies had no problems loading the custom Star locations. Only Hightatil Falls has an issue with it...

EDIT: Does anyone have a solution for this???

QUESTION: In SMG2, is there a way to have the following Star settings: 3 normal Stars, 2 Comet missions, and 1 hidden Star in any galaxy? If so, then which of these settings does each Star need?

SETTING OPTIONS
a. Change each Star type to "normal"/"hidden" in the BCSV editor.
b. Give each Star an intro cutscene/galaxy fly-in.
c. Put a Star in each scenario, and place a Comet Medal and a hidden Star within the galaxy.
d. Add 2 Comet Types. ("Comet" section in BCSV editor.)
e. Have working cameras, checkpoints, and starting points.
f. Play-test each mission a few times.

The max count for NORMAL stars is 4, without the stars after it overlapping on the star select screen.

Would 7 be kinda doable? Because the 3 stars would be inbetween the 4...is that how it works?

So, do I have to keep the Green Stars in the galaxies?

Well, what I want to do in some galaxies is this format: Have the 3 normal Power Stars on the top row, then have a prankster comet mission (gold Power Star), a second prankster comet mission (green Power Star*), and the hidden Star (gold Power Star) on the bottom row. Is there any way to accomplish this?

*The reason for a green Power Star is so that the second comet ONLY appears after defeating Bowser with 120 Stars.

EDIT: Hello??? Can someone please answer my question so that I may continue editing the SMG2 files (if needed)? Please?

I'm not replacing a galaxy... I'm just changing the Stars IN each current galaxy... I want to have 3 gold Power Stars on the top row, and I want a gold Star, a green Star (appears after collecting 100 purple coins in the galaxy), and a hidden gold Star on the bottom row. (This may not happen on the boss galaxies, but it will most likely happen on all the other galaxies in the game.

EDIT: QUESTION: How do I add a new layer to a galaxy?

EDIT2: QUESTION: How do I change the PowerStarID on the actual Star item in Whitehole (not in the BCSV editor, but in the actual editor mode)?
