I'm pretty sure that's hurr durr Fahrenheit scale, which would be like like 37 degrees Celsius.

(Why only the USA uses that scale? They are the only ones along with Belize to use that system, which is annoying)

Ye ik that was the joke :P

Every time I hear someone saying a crazy number like over 60, I have to immediately think its fahrenheit. We have this guy to thank: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Gabriel_Fahrenheit

Why would such a bad system be in use?

Ubuntu is great. Really, if you have a slow computer, install ubuntu and you're set. It is so light weight that my old 1gb ram single core laptop with no dedicated graphics could run it perfectly and stutter with windows xp! Did I mention that it was the latest Ubuntu at the time? (2015). Linux is a bit hard to use so I dont recommend it to the people I know are not tech savvy, but people that like computers and know how to google, Ubuntu is perfect. I don't have any experience with any other linux distributions tho, there might be better.

Yes. This so much. Last week I tried buying an app from the play store (Nova Launcher Prime if interested) and since it was my first purchase ever, it asked me to enter my credentials. Me, being kinda tired, put in the password 3 times wrong. "PLEASE USE BACKUP EMAIL" - an email I haven't used in 5 years... I had the 2 step verification with my phone, why could I not choose to send a code as an SMS? Took like 3 hours and then I finally got in after a bit of rest. Luckily I managed to do all this before the sale of that app was over.

(that's what happens when you move across half the continent seven times by age 15)

Oh where are you from? I had a similar experience in my life, 14 flights from/to Argentina - Canada. It's pretty tough, though here in Canada the metric system is mostly used, so I got lucky.

Here it's mostly people in construction that use the Imperial system, scientists and engineers use metric. I'm pretty sure that is the case in USA too.

ugh. I hate when sites go YOU FAILED THREE TIMES, YOU'RE PERMANENTLY LOCKED OUT UNTIL YOU DO THIS.

I know they're trying to protect against password-guessing bots, but you don't need to make the lockdown permanent. This board locks you out for like 15 minutes after 5 failed attempts, for example.

Yeah google doesnt lock you out permanently either but makes you wait a while for the next set of logins.

Is that supposed to be a bad thing? An insult?

No, take advantage of this time cause we lose it later in life.

kitten, a coup is not the same thing as a terrorist attack :>

Hope your alright.

I personally hope the coup works. I am sure the military would have better control over the country than Erdogan and wouldn't talk shit like the current president does. Also, I think that this coup could probably stop a lot of terrorist attacks and make the country stop dealing with isis. FFS right now Turkey is facilitating isis, not something the military would do.

Happy bday.

Too bad the coup doesnt seem to be getting much ground. Erdogan is crazy, and I hate how the world isn't doing anything about him easing isis's survival. Religious governments are cancer, most middle eastern countries should have military presence to deny any attack and overthrow. Like Egypt, when morsi assumed power, everything went to shit, then the military took over again and now its much more peaceful.

It's cause the military is secular, they do not want a unique religion (at least in turkey and egypt), which makes them more reasonable and overall a better government, and it is also much more cooperative with other nations this way.

not like it'd be any different from the way western politics are now

You can't compare western countries to the middle east. All these countries are is a bunch of fake democracies and dictatorships. Not only that but people are repressed and forced to follow a view of a religion they do not support and the population has no freedom at all.

In western countries people have a bunch of rights, governments are democratic and somewhat follow the public's needs. Just because you do not agree with the candidates proposed in these elections, it doesn't mean that the rest of the population doesn't like them. They won for a reason. In third world countries people do not have the luxury of picking their representative, and many people are repressed for voicing their opinions, such as iran, saudi arabia and a bunch of other countries in the region, turkey included. Meanwhile, in the US and Canada everyone has equal rights.

You might be talking about politicians not getting anything past congress. Well, since it is a democracy, they have to argue and decide if a certain decision is the right one. In non-democratic societies, these things don't happen because the government can just implement whatever they want without any backlash.

Yeah, I was not aware of that. I also want to bring the point that before general elections, Democrats have "super delegates", people whose vote is worth more than any other person. So Hillary Clinton got the super delegates on her side and won by a big margin, while Bernie Sanders had about the same amount of the popular vote.

Yeah that is pretty stupid, depending on where you live, your vote can count as 0 if you live in a state that does not follow your same ideology.

what i meant was a western-based republic with officials basing their actions on whatever religion they have would cause just as much contention as anything else in politics

Oh now i see what you're saying. Well, you're right, but remember that religion isn't just another dividing factor. For some, religion is life, and in these extremes, which seem to be very common nowadays, which makes for a terrible, non-secular environment which most countries (and the military of Turkey) want to avoid.

Also, the failed Military coup could be bad PR for Erdogan, since it makes him look like he's losing control of the country, and that the military is not backing him, which might make him weak in situations of war against terrorism.
