Hi everyone even though I noticed this quite the time ago I'm posting this just now...... so anyway Hi everyone and happy new Year! Let's make 2013 another productive year!
BTW There's something very wrong with the old site (in that you can't actually access it. At all). If this was intentional then sorry for not seeing that ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. How will the inside of the Castle look? Are we gonna make it SM64 style or try to possibly make our own interior design? The latter would probably result in disaster but it could work (if someone comes up with a REALLY good and possible design).
If we're going to make it like SM64's Castle then I have 2 possible Ideas: 1: We could have each of the Painting Rooms have a special style and seperate NPCs (like maybe one room is sea-based and has all the Penguin NPCs in it. Another is mechanical based and has Gearmo NPCs in it. A third is honey based and has Bee NPCs in it?). The outer rooms and halls can have smaller NPCs, Toads and possibly Purple Coins or something (if we're gonna use Purple Coins there. I myself do not want that) 2: We dedicate each painting room to a member (who's contributed alot/had a job) and have "paintings" of the members' Avatars and underneath them maybe a sign where their name, (previous/current) job, Join date and maybe other stuff too is written. My only issue with this is that maybe there will be conflicts as to who "deserves to be on there" and who doesn't... These may not be very bright ideas but they're still...... ideas (Don't even know if it's possible to recreate the whole SM64 castle). ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. I already posted this on the Proboards thread, but maybe we can have a puzzle where we group together a LOT of Boos and make only one have a Launch/Sling/Power Star inside?
In SMG1 there was a Boo in Deep Dark which dropped a Star and whose object and model is called TeresaChief. It's technically the same as a Big Boo, but only shrunk to half its size in Deep Dark. This Boo doesn't exist in SMG2 (as the Big Boos there are called TeresaAtomic). So.... while It would need to be imported I can see the usefulness of having the ability to put almost any objects in Boos (AND have them visible on the outside if we want). Something which I also consider a very good idea if we're gonna import those Boos are to put the Toad Brigade inside different Boos and then having to save them by beating the Boos. The Toad Brigade always get into trouble anyway so that would be really cool. Like we can also afterwards have the Toad Brigade say that the Boos ate them (Too Violent?). I can imagine a flat large planet with some gravestones and bats and lots of Boos in the middle. The planet would have 2, 3 or 4 Light Beams which travel slowly around the course and Mario would have to defeat all the Boos and rescue the Toad Brigade. Polari I think that this could possibly be incorporated into your design (maybe it could be the second Planet or maybe third) ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. I think we're trying to be too picky about the SMW level. I say we keep it simple and just remake Yoshi's Island 1 or 2 (properly). They're both pretty simple, but quite memorable (at least to people who've played SMW) levels. And besides it's not like every person who has played SMW has completed the game or come very far. We even already have the Music for YI2 on the game itself.
As for the SMS level it's actually quite the same to me. I would suggest either Bianco Hills or Ricco Harbour: Bianco Hills is the first level and possibly the most nostalgic one to some people. If we choose this we can also maybe put Peewee Piranha as a boss there (like in the trailer). Ricco Harbour is the level which has been featured the most in Mario/Nintendo games generally so it's probably the most well-known SMS level around the world. We could also try and mimic the Blooper-riding section with Dash Yoshi (like Martboo did in his SMS importing trailer). Pianta Village I actually wouldn't like that much but it seems to have a huge demand among people. I find nothing wrong with the level itself but it's the least "Sunshine"-like level to me and it's probably one of the least known areas (because it's the last one you unlock). Also it's a very small area so I actually find it the worst choice (after possibly Sirena Beach and Corona Mountain) So..... I would actually choose Ricco Harbour as the SMS Level. Can't wait until the official poll starts :big: ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. What will this mission's difficulty be?
- Easy (anything easier than Grandmaster's first mission)? - Hard (like Grandmaster's first mission)? - Very hard (like The Perfect Run)? - Insanely Hard (like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARmBQ4iXtJk)? - Close to Impossible (like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa2EFF6fQUQ)? - Virtually Impossible (like a 3D Version of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbw2s83iUpc)? Which of those? ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. also like the Perfect Run? Why not make it at least Insanely Hard. People like a challenge
Also "Virtually Impossible" IS Kaizo (at least to me. I beat the first level so I know that it's not completely impossible, but It took me LOTS of tries/Save States. I'm not gonna bother and try to beat the rest). ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. And Possibly create our own enemies? What if we made Hammer Bros. which throw other enemies (Goomba Bros. anyone?) or other new objects (Maybe something like Cannnonball Bros? That would even fit this level) ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. I have an idea for a new member. Maybe since they're Royal Guards, they found an "apprentice in training" Toad (colour not yet specified) to join them and "watch and learn". We could have it that at the beginning he really admires the Toad Brigade and thinks they're the best and stuff, but as you progress through the game and eventually see the Toad Brigade more, he finds out that they're actually not as grand as he thought and that they're just lazy, but he still tags along with them (but has realized who they really are).
He can be the "Common Sense" person of those, as he could maybe every time say something witty about how silly the Brigade's plans and thoughts are (especially the leader's) during the missions. Maybe at the end of the game, he could be promoted to Leader? (or just an official Member) What do you think about this? ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. Maybe we can use Cannons in this Galaxy to blast Mario from Tower to Tower (SM3DL Style). That could be cool. Cannons should definitely be used somehow in this galaxy (unless the galaxy is supposed to be just one single tower).
We can also possibly get some inspiration from the (short) segment at the end of SM3DL's last level (which also features Cannons): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z67m0cj30pI (from 2:16 to 3:15 in the video) ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. Posted by pieordie1 Since when does the 3DS have a Nunchuck and a Z Button? anyway I like the concept of Fake Hungry Lumas. We could put tons of them in a maze (but still somehow give at least one clue to where the real one is). The secret Star could be that we have TWO "real" Hungry Lumas (the other leads to the secret star) but give absolutely no indication to where the other one could be. This way the Player would have to check all/many of the Hungry Lumas before he finds it (and Really frustrate some people if they waste all their coins on the fake ones before they find the secret one). To make it even more frustrating, we can place it far away from the real one What do you think? ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. I don't care which SMW level gets chosen so I just voted for YI2. That one was one of the more memorable for me.
As for the SMS Level I voted Ricco Harbor because of many things: - It's a quite big area - Ray Surfing - It was one of those levels which really screamed "Sunshine" to me (along with Gelato Beach and Noki Bay). - It's the most famous SMS level generally by far (discounting Delfino Plaza) since it has both appeared itself in Mario Power Tennis AND its music (and name) is featured in SSBB. - Unlike Gelato Beach and Noki Bay, it's a Pianta-only level so it saves us the trouble of importing Nokis (probably not even possible) while still keeping the Original Level Design. However I do think that Delfino Plaza should be mentioned/visited at least once in SMG2.5 (Along with Luigi's Mansion). I hope we'll release those areas as DLC after the game is finished ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. My favorite Home console is the Wii (but I have a strong feeling that Wii U will overtake that position this year) and my favorite Handheld System is this.:

This picture (The face Whomp King has when you beat him, but you can't see it ingame) really freaks me out for some reason every time I see it:
Also I just read that originally SMG2 was going to have Pikmin appear in the game but they got taken out because their shape was too awkward for Mario to jump on (indicating that they would be Enemies or that they would be interactable NPCs) ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy. If we're not going to have more than 5 Lumas (4 fake and 1 real) then it's naturally that we have to hide those much better then (leaving all 5 in plain sight wouldn't be a challenge and hardly a riddle at all). ____________________ Former SMG2.5 Advertiser and one-time Level Designer/Artist - So Apparently Norway is rich while Denmark and Sweden are happy.
