Attempting to make a proper game finally. No more procrastination and being lazy. This is finally taking shape and I'd like an opinion one day whenever.

Official Indie Experience Inside

English/日本人

Oh no, Cloudland is in trouble! The evil King Cloud has stolen all of the Cloudland dreams, and now nobody can fall asleep! It's up to On-Yan, protector of Cloudland, to journey on a quest to stop King Cloud...

やばい!クモランドランドは大変です! すべてのクラウドランドの夢が悪の王クラウドを盗んでいました、 そして誰も眠り込むできない! オン-ヤん、クラウドランドの保護者は旅をして、悪の王クラウドを止めるために...

-----------------------------

This is an retro nostalgic indie game about the color red and onions. Inspired by a lot of classic games and stuff like that. Journey through many worlds and encounter many different creatures in your quest to save the day. It's been in development for around 4 and a half months now and I think it's finally playable enough for me to show it off.

This indie game is being made by:
Me - Lead Programmer
JaxCheese - Lead Composer (Bandcamp)
Neweegee - Lead Pixel Artist (Deviantart)
Blutorus - Additional Artwork
LuigiM9/Kirby's Adventure - Additional Artwork
Someguy - Additional Programming
Masashi27 - Translations

I know that it's part of the theme, but will there be other color palettes available? I think that red would get unpleasant on the eyes after playing for a while, like the Virtual Boy.

There is a grayscale mode in the game

What even is that spinning board thing?

It's your main weapon in the game. You use it to destroy enemies. Legend has that it's a magical artifact of sorts

It reminds me a bit of Psycho Waluigi.

PW was one of my big inspirations so that is obvious.

The wooden log weapon seems to make it too easy-- just place it in front of the character and it auto-destroys most enemies you run across.

The game won't be that easy. Those enemies are just for testing and most enemies in the final game will require thought to defeat.

The game looks interesting, it reminds me a bit to the Virtual Boy, but with a Kirby-style game.
ゲームは面白そうね。ちょっとバーチャルボーイで出版したカービィゲームににているよ!

Thanks for liking it! My biggest influences with this were Kirby and Physco Waluigi

Meet dozier, the first "complex" enemy in the game
Dozier stands still, due to sleeping, and snores out handfuls of "Z"'s that can harm the player. Hitting Dozier with your magical stick won't hurt him though. What you have to do is bounce the "Z" back at Dozier to wake him up, and attack him, all done with the Stick.
Also that isn't a third leg so don't even mention it.

interesting enemy concept.

however, the game's limited colorimetry makes it sorta hard to distinguish the foreground and background. I expect the foreground to be brighter, but the 'harmful Z' thing shown in the screenshot is about the same brightness level as the background, which makes it hard to distinguish.

I guess it works better in the real game if the background uses parallax scrolling, though.

the choice of red as a unique color doesn't help, either. it's the color human eyes are the least sensible to. although there aren't that many red tones here.

edit- oh right, I saw that old GIF again. you do use parallax scrolling, which is good. along with animations, distinguishing things is less of a problem than I thought from seeing the still screenshot.

The "Z" constantly changes color, from bright to dark, so it should be easier to be seen ingame. I just got unlucky with the frame thing. Also, there is an option to have the game be played in grayscale mode, which could be better.

Nice!

Makes me think of something: what's the game coded in? Have you guys thought about console ports, official or homebrew?

Yes, I have plans for a console port. This is being programmed in Fusion 2.5, which has exporters for XBox One, PS4, and Wii-U. However, by the time the game comes out, the Wii-U will be long dead, so except the game to potentially come out on XBox One and PS4 if anything (Idk if NX would even be suitable for a game like this). Also, this game has a website now I quickly made for the game inspired by those cheesy 90's internet webpages. It's mostly a screenshot archive but with enough digging, you might find something good....

Since 1995

Staple if I remember correctly its coded from Gamemaker, Music from Click Team Fusion, and I cant think of the other software she? or he used.

I did buy GMS: Master edition so if you need exporting then you can contact me if you want!

Pixel Art is done in Game Maker, coding in Fusion 2.5, and music done in Famitracker.

ah, I have tried making a platformer in Click Team fusion I just could never really understand it, but GML is sooo much easier for me to learn and make games with

This makes me wonder if you should put it up for Steam Greenlight...

It most likely will in the far future of 20XX

Alternate Palettes.

Now you don't have to play the game in red.

Good, cause the red made it look like a virtual boy.

It was suppose to look like a Virtual Boy game
