Dont worry about it, also he's a nice guy, he's just really anal about people stealing his work, even though I told him it most likely be stolen this time :P Also you cant really do jack shit with a yay0 compressor, you cant edit rooms or area layouts, all you can do is model swapping because the tools are not there for everything else yet

And keep it closed source if he's really wary, but I think closed-source tends to also hinder progress in ROM hacking. Good documentation can compensate the lack of source code, though.
I've explained all this to him and he still doesnt want it given out.

Honestly I dont know if any of this will change his mind, hes the hardest headed person i've ever met, once hes makes a decision its unlikely he will change his mind. also as I mentioned earlier, there is no room editing, the bin files are still as mysterious as ever and our research hast turned up anything, which makes the yay0 compressor virtually useless for anything other than swapping model that are already in the game (.mdls anyway, the few bmd's can be edited but not much). Edit: the one thing we know about the bin files is that they seem to be a packed file type, thats all we know and its only a hunch, but considering other things in the game that would support it, its likely. Edit 2: and on another side note you dont need the yay0 compressor to edit the bin files where rooms are held they are in uncompressed folders in the iso so all you need to do is rebuild the iso for room editing, making the yay0 encoder even more useless

An mdl2obj is the only useful thing right now, a yay0 compressor is barely needed, what is needed is a way to decompile .bin files (which you dont need a yay0 compressor to reinsert into the game [see Iwamoto folder, just edit and rebuild iso], the bin files are rarc compressed at most). Also Lm hacking community? the 5 people who use hex editors and the few that have the yay0 compressor? im sorry but if you think there is an LM hacking community you are sadly mistaken, its like 10 people at most.

Well after working on this for a while and forgetting to post about it here its finally done. this is the Luigi's Mansion boss rush hack and as the name implies its a boss rush, all the bosses are fought on one health bar and are one after another, no breaks. the only issue is it doesn't immediately start when you start a new file so you have to do the training room but there isn't much that I can do about that right now. Here is the release trailer (download is in the description of the video) EDIT: I just want to specify that I made this using my own yay0 tools, not the tools made by NWP

Not really, editing the jmp is one thing but editing the collision is another, what you have to remember is that the models like dressers tables and couches are built into the collision models. In short, no, an edited version of anarchy could work as an LM editor because the JMP and collision need to be edited separately.

Yeah exporting the models is fairly easy, I could dump some 3dland models if you need rean, ive got a dumped 3dland rom

Are you using smea's cgfx2obj script, the nosies importer, or something else? I usually use the cgfx2obj script

yep thats the one!, it screws up models sometimes so i'd just use the nosies plugin or whatever you've got going right now :p

There are scripts (like the one mentioned above) for model dumping and you can dump 3DS games with xor pads made with some 3DShomebrew running on firmware 4.5

Sketchup can be a very powerful modeling tool if you know how to use it right.

What format exactly? You don't really specify in this post, and if you mean bcmdl/cgfx models, then no. They are well documented, understanding the format isn't as hard as you are making it out to be.
