It doesn't look like any of them are doing that but, the only other newcomer in that image is the villager, so it's probably is.

In my opinion, mods change up the game to make it..... just.... different.. i guess?
I don't know, it's not that default Minecraft is boring or not customisable, it's mods make the game more customisable and less boring (or not depending on the mod), because do you want wizards, new dimensions like the Aether, Blind Oasis and Atum, godzilla, ores like tin, uranium and titanium in your Minecraft game?
you don't? well, good. 'cause Mojang AB an't addin' dem to da game.
But you can, and that's why any mod for any game is awesome.

and my favorite block in DEFAULT Minecraft is cobblestone.

the better mods will release a new version of the mod for the newest version of minecraft within 3 days.

unless it's a heavy code changer update like in 1.2 when they changed the REGION (.mcr) format to ANVIL (.mca) witch loaded faster or 1.3 with the new creative menu or the worst of the bunch, the 1.6 update witch completely fucked over how Minecraft's file system worked.
