Here's a video of me using the OS. And Windows 11 was not made in paint. Very novice coders made this build. Now whenever I click on Firefox, it opens the start menu and clicking the recycle bin throws a BSOD and restarts windows.

Welcome one and all to this thread. Wondering what Super Mario Galaxy Plus is? Wondering what is going to be in it? Want to help out or even spearhead the project yourself? This thread will answer all of that and more. Just know this is tentative and may not even happen. To keep this organized and easily readable, I will divide this into sections. If you need to quickly find something, use ctrl+f or related command to activate find.

What is Super Mario Galaxy Plus? Are you doing to Super Mario Galaxy what Microsoft did to Windows 8 (It was Windows 8.1)?

In simpler terms, yes I am. This will feature the same graphics and what not as Galaxy 1. All the galaxy's present will be unchanged as well as their stars, however, some new galaxies will be added into all six domes, and if it's possible, a 7th dome featuring really hard galaxies will be added in, but that depends on how much is known about the domes and if making an entirely new one is possible. Also added into the mix will be a few new comets alongside the existing ones.

What galaxies will be added?

I am aiming at for two new galaxies per dome, plus four new ones for the 7th dome if that is possible. The galaxies difficulties will be tied to the dome with the 7th dome being extra hard.

You mentioned two new comets. What are these going to be?

This, along with the 7th observatory are going to be iffy since I'm not sure if both are known how to be implemented, but if they can be, expect two new comets to be added. The first will be Enemy Madness. In that, you get taken to a course and have to kill all the enemies on the course. Appropriate items will be added to aid in the killing of enemies not killable bu normal means (such as a simple jump or ground pound). This would get added to existing galaxies where feasible. The next comet would be called Starbit run. In it, you must collect every single starbit in the galaxy. This includes the starbits laying around, the ones from the ? mark blocks, and the ones from enemies. The starbits that shoot from the sky would be disabled when played in this mode. This can be compared to the purple coin comet, and will get added to galaxy's where feasible. The Enemy madness and Starbit run will have timers added on certain galaxies (where feasible), while some galaxies will feature no timers (like the purple coin comets).

Will the new galaxies get the existing comets in addition to the new ones?

Yes they will. What galaxy gets what is very much undecided.

Will the hungry luma's and green star galaxies get comets? Will some existing galaxies get some comets added in?

I haven't thought that far yet, but they probably will. Here's a tentative list of what could get comets.

Loopdeloop galaxy: Ray surfing for purple coins. In this, you'd hop on Ray and surf around the track for 100 purple coins. Don't fret if you miss any as you can go around as many times as needed until you get them all. Once all are gotten, you are taken off Ray and the coach gives you a power star.

Loopdeswoop galaxy: Purple coin extravaganza. Here, you'd hop on Ray and collect 100 purple coins, however, there is a catch. You must collect all 100 on your first try, otherwise you must start over. Once all are accounted for, you are taken off Ray and the coach gives you a power star.

Rolling Gizmo Galaxy: Rolling cosmic Mario race. In this one, you hop on the ball, and roll a bit. Doing so will activate a cosmic Mario race, however, this time he is on a ball as well. He can't knock you off with his ball, but running into him will produce the same effect as if you were doing the walking variation. Get your ball to the flag pole before he does to get the star out of it. This one may not happen. We'll see.

Rolling Gizmo Galaxy: Rolling Gizmo speed run. Get the ball to the end within the time limit.

Gizmidrome Galaxy (I think that's the green luma variation's name): Cosmic Mario strikes back. Same as above really. Get your ball to the flag pole before he does to win. This may not happen either.

Gizmidrome Galaxy: Same as the Rolling Gizmo speed run.

Sling pod galaxy: Purple coins in the air. Use the sling pods to collect all the purple coins to activate the power star.

Sling pod galaxy: Starbit hoarder: Collect every single starbit present in the level. Doing so will activate the power star.

Sweet Sweet Galaxy: 100 purple cookies. Collect 100 purple coins to get the star.

Snow cap galaxy: Snow bunnies in the snow daredevil run. This is the same as the existing star, except, you only have 1 life and there are enemies to make it more complicated.

Buoy Base Galaxy: Underwater coins. In this comet, you must dive underwater and command the torpedo ted to break all 10 cages to free the purple coins. Each cage contains 10 purples each.

Honeyclimb galaxy: Beehive daredevil run. Fly to the star, but you only have 1 life.

Honeyclimb galaxy: Beehive speed run. Fly to the star within the time limit.

Honeyclimb galaxy: Floating coins. Fly and collect all 100 purple coins to make a star appear.

Sand Spiral galaxy: Choosing a favorite snack speed run. Get to the star within the time limit.

Sand Spiral galaxy: Purple coin feast. Using either the bee suit or the boo suit, collect all 100 purple coins. Doing so awards the star.

That list is tentative, and you are allowed to provide feedback on it. I don't want a galaxy's comet to be impossible to beat.

Do you have a name for the new galaxies?

I do not. For more info on the new galaxies, continue on.

Do you have any rough sketches of the new galaxies designs?

This is where you, the user comes in. I have absolutely no experience in Autodesk 3D studio, Bender, Sketchup, etc, and even if I did, I couldn't make a galaxy that is in the vain of the existing ones to begin with. What you would do is, using your artistic skills and any freetime you might have, you'd create galaxy models and then send them to me. Anyone can send as many as they like, however, only 17 will only be used after I decide on which 17 are the best. 12 will be used for the main domes, 13-16 would be used for the new dome (if possible), and 17 would be used for the hungry luma outside of this new dome. That luma would cost 2,000 starbits to unlock its galaxy. Make sure your models are good, and of course, you'd be credited. Any and every outside contribution will get credited.

This sounds like a BIG project. Are you seriously going to go through with this?

All of what is listed here is tentative, meaning this might not even happen at all. I am completely new to Super Mario Galaxy hacking so tutorials on that would be appreciated. Just because these are my ideas doesn't mean you can't try to implement these yourself. Just make sure to credit me if you decide to take this massive project on.

Why do you expect other people to do most of your work for you? And if it sounds tentative to you and you don't think it could happen at all, then why did you post it.

I just wanted to let my ideas out, and hope it encourages someone looking to hack Super Mario Galaxy to really research the game and open up new hacking methods in the process. Trust me, I am going to research super mario galaxy hacking. I have an ISO that I am gonna extract so I can view its contents. I would really love for my ideas to become a reality, however, I don't know how hard it would be, even for experienced smg hackers, to add in some of my listed ideas. I'm sure if I search the ISO hard enough, all of it may become clear. I know the scene isn't big, but if this can come to fruition, it may inspire others to take up hacking this game and letting their ideas be seen to the public. Can't be much different than a custom mario kart track (I think those use the same file structure since both are 3D based) Also, does anyone have any good starting points for smg hacking?

I decided to downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 7. This was on an HP laptop where 10 was running really slow lately. This laptop was bought in 2015 with Windows 10 on it. It was a bit of a pain to get the Windows 7 media to work on USB 3.0 ports, but I got it working. Funny thing is it kept telling me I didn't have a required CD/DVD driver. Funny, as I wasn't using that, I was using USB, and if I was using the CD/DVD drive to install ir and this said driver was missing, how were you able to load the installation media? It even said I could safely remove the installation media if I had the driver on a separate CD. I did have a CD labeled Windows 7 64 Bit, but it was just recovery media that I thought was an actual 7 installation.

I installed Windows 7 on Monday, and am still updating it two days later. Took four hours for the 165 main updates. Now it's taking 5+ hours to install 41 updates, most of which are various display languages, which it says can take a while on some computers. Bit of a pain to find drivers as the HP drivers for my computer are mostly 10 only, though a few worked under it (such as sound). Once I got wireless internet working, I was then able to have Windows search for the rest (such as Intel graphics), though it couldn't find an Ethernet driver, so I had to search for that manually and plug in the Ethernet cable cord to install it.

In all, it runs faster than 10, which I don't think was at fault, but rather the OEM software provided by HP themselves, which I removed when installing 7. This laptop also says the battery is at 0% and not charging, and the internet likes to be weak, and at times, go out altogether, so I'm gonna have to replace those genuine HP parts with replacement genuine HP parts come Christmas (the network adapter is on back-order anyways when I view its product description). Hopefully those, along with 7 gives this laptop some new life.

In addition to this, I have four computers that run 10 (one of those being a laptop I use for school), a laptop that has two hard drives (I can only have one in at any given time), a 500 GB, and 80 GB HDD. The 500 has a tri-boot of Vista, 7, and 8.1, while the 80 GB one has Windows 8 build 8056 (this can be described as Windows 7 meets Windows 8).

Sorry for the lengthy post, but thought I'd give some insight on the above picture. Also, Windows is only on Update 18 out of 41 as I submit this. it's installing the Korean display language atm.

EDIT: Stopped the updates. Going to uninstall the language packs installed so far and forgo the others. The ones I currently have have eaten up almost 5 GB of hdd space.

As you'll see in the Post your desktop thread, I downgraded one of my many Windows 10 machines to Windows 7. It was starting to get very slow and also have random blue screens of death. I don't attribute those to Windows 10, but rather HP's OEM software. I removed all that and put on Windows 7. Did it on Monday the 9th, and am still updating it two days later. The updates it's doing now are optional updates. A lot of these are display languages, which these install very slowly, and has caused the install to drag on for 6+ hours (I started these at 2 PM). I fear this might need all night and probably won't be done until morning, and it's only 41 updates.

Have a layout you want to show off? Do so here. Want feedback on a layout, you can receive that here. This thread is beneficial for many reasons. Whether it be your layout may stretch a post requiring side scrolling just to read, or if you want to make sure your layout works in all browsers, this is the place. There was an incident on vizzed with someone's layout where it worked fine in Firefox and Chrome, but did not work in Internet Explorer, requiring the user to make painstaking tweaks just to get it to work in all well known and popular browsers. Since not everyone has access to all the most popular browsers used by the users here, it allows the check to be done more easily, rather than downloading a new browser just to check it out only to uninstall once said check is done.

Anyways, show off your layouts here. Mine is a Windows 7 notepad layout. If you notice anything off in it, please let me know ASAP.

P.S. If this is useless, or if one already exists elsewhere, then please close this.

scrolling layouts are generally a no-no, though

I had no idea. Is my layout fine, or should I change. Technically, now that I think of it, wouldn't scrolling layouts be better? Wouldn't they reduce the size of the post page if someone made a long post?

Posted by HEYimHeroic
also that scrollbar isn't even a real scrollbar, meaning you get two scrollbars

I see that. I fixed that. How does this look?

Posted on 09-17-19 06:31 PM, in Why you should stop using Windows 10 with only 4GB of ram. (rev. 2 of 09-17-19 06:34 PM) Link | #98147
NOTICE: This not a bash of Windows 10, nor do I hate it. I like it. I just don't like how slow it can become after a while on 4GB ram computers. This leads me to believe 10 is not really supported on that kind of ram. I did what I described here, and love it! Heck, I'm using it right now. Installing Windows 7 allowed me to give a 4 year old buggy HP laptop a new life. There are some issues this didn't fix, but I can fix those by buying genuine HP spare parts.

Introduction and the Procedure:

If you have a Windows 10 laptop with only 4GB of ram, here's why you should stop using it and downgrade to either Windows 7 or 8.1 (7 may be faster than 8.1, who knows). Let's be real, Windows 10 will run with 4GB of ran no problem, when you first got the computer. Now, stack up all the updates released every month and the big updates every 6 months. That eats up a lot of disk space, and can even consume your ram, plus more if something goes wrong (such as the high ram usage from Cortana due to a bug). This can make your computer feel like your running Windows 10 on a 10+ year old computer that only has 1-2GB of ram. This won't do if you're using the computer for everyday purposes. Now note, you won't have this issue on an 8GB+ ram laptop, those will run fine, this is just for 4GB ram laptops.

I will also show you how to install Windows 7/8.1 in place of Windows 10 so you can experience faster speeds.

How does downgrading to Windows 7 or 8.1 help make 4GB of ram faster? You are installing an OS that is not prone to major updates with new features every 6 months, plus the OEM software and any additional partitions created alongside 10 will be gone (more on this later).

To start, back up anything off of the Windows 10 installation to an external source, such as a USB HDD. After, navigate to Device Manager, and make note of the manufacturer of all the drivers there. Most will be fine, but since Windows 7/8.1 is most likely unsupported, you won't have things such as intel graphics, wi-fi, and ethernet out of the box, and your computer manufacturer will probably not have a drivers page for 7/8.1 for your computer, so you'll need to search for them with google. Once you get wi-fi or ethernet working, you can then use Windows update to update the rest of your drivers for you. If it cannot find anything, then google for a windows 7 version of the same driver that was listed in 10's device manager.

Once done, using either a CD or USB (I recommend you use a USB 8 GB or higher), load your windows media. If you don't have media, then using a burning software such as imgburn for DVD's or Rufus for USB's, burn the installation media for 7 or 8.1 to it (default settings should work. On Rufus, there will be an option to switch between MBR and UEFI, make sure UEFI is selected since that's what Windows 10 uses. After that, there is one more thing to take care of. This doesn't apply to Windows 8.1, only Windows 7, and I believe it only happens when running from USB. When you try to run the Windows 7 installation, it will tell you that it needs a required DVD driver, despite the fact we aren't even using that. This error stems from Windows 7 not having USB 3.0 support out of the box (and switching the port will most likely not help at this point). To fix this, follow everything in this YouTube video, especially the link in the description. This will take some time, but once it is done, we can officially start rocking and rolling. Also, Windows 10 will probably say the device malfunctioned since the last time you used it. Don't worry about it and just simply unplug the USB and plug it into a blue USB 3.0 port.

Open up the Metro settings and go to update and security. Go to the recovery section and choose the option that takes allows you to enter settings such as your BIOS. Once the options screen shows up, choose the BIOS option (the one that allows you to enter the BIOS). Your computer will restart, once it powers back on, immediately hit the key that enters your BIOS (such as Del or F2), keep hitting it until the BIOS pops up. Once it does, navigate to the boot tab and disable secure boot and enable legacy boot. Also, rearrange the boot order so the USB, and not Windows 10 boots first. Once done, exit and whatever windows version you chose should be loading.

Navigate through Step 1 normally. When you reach the hard drive manager, delete everything there so there is only unallocated space listed. We do not want the OEM software or any other parttion related to 10. We want to be able to take advantage of the full hard drive space. Don't worry, deleting these extra drives won't harm your computer or your ability to get into the BIOS. These were just extra drives to support the Windows 10 installation. Click the unallocated space once and then click next. After the files are copied, expanded, etc, it will reboot, and we will go back into the bios. Back in, go back to boot and change the boot order so the hard drive boots first rather than the USB (but leave that inserted). Exit, and the rest of Windows will install. Do it normally, and Windows will eventually load.

Once you are in Windows, get all the drivers installed, as mentioned previously. Once done, check for updates. For Windows 7, make sure to plan accordingly, you'll probably have almost 200 updates at once. This will take probably a good 4 hours, give or take a few. For Windows 8.1, I do not know how many updates that needs, it has never pestered me to update. Once drivers are installed and the big update is done, you can then customize Windows how you'd like as it means you are done. You should notice a speed increase almost immediately, and certain Steam games such as Bloons TD 5 should run better than they did under a laggy Windows 10 install.

I use a Windows 10 on 4GB of RAM and it seems to work fine. It used to be Windows 8, but I upgraded to 8.1 and 10 after.

Interesting. Must depend on the hardware then. If it starts to get slow, just consider this. It helped me with my laptop slowness.

Allow me to clear up some confusion regarding this, and very sorry for the huge bump, but some new info has since come out regarding the paid Windows 7 support. Paid Windows 7 support is only available for the business and education(?) sector. The home and ultimate editions are not included, however, someone found a way to download Microsoft's test update on these machines. This test update can only be installed on machines capable of paid extended support. If you try to install it on an unsupported machine, it won't install. Enabling the hack allows it to, however, no one is certain if this will work come February. These patches cannot be slipstreamed into an ISO file either.

Windows 10 is still available for free as long as your Windows 7/8.1 copy is genuine. Check either Windows Update or download and burn an ISO to get started, however, at this stage, you'd be better off getting a new computer with fresh hardware. This ensures you get the latest and greatest speed improvements.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

As of today, I only have one computer running Windows 10. The others were either downgraded, or never had 10 to begin with. This is what I have right now. HP laptop with Windows 7 (mentioned above), Dell Tower with Windows 7 (just got today), small blue Acer with Windows 8.1, an old Vista-shipped Acer with a penta-boot of Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8.1, and a brand new Acer with Windows 10.

Windows 10 was running just fine on the tower, however, I did not want the OEM stuff included by Dell, plus Windows 7 is supported on my model, despite mine shipping with Windows 8.1 when acquired in 2015 (it was upgraded to 10 for free). This tower is really great at emulating Gamecube and Wii games with Dolphin. Runs as if I'm playing it on an actual Gamecube/Wii, and that's even with it only having 8 GB of RAM. If you want a reliable and cheap Gamecube/Wii capable computer, get a Dell Inspiron 3847. If you don't want 10 on it, uninstall and grab 7. just google Windows 7 on Dell Inspiron 3847 and one of the links inside of one of the search results should take you to its drivers page. You do need a KB something something update before you install the drivers as it will complain about a ProcedureEntryPoint not being found. Also make sure you have a computer with a reliable internet connection to download at least that update and the internet drivers to a USB. You can then do the rest from the tower. Also make sure Dell Support Assistant is installed as well.

I wish for an octagonal car tire.

This is a bio? Is this where I input Biology or Biography? And I'm pretty sure graphy is a suffix due to its usage in geography, photography, biography, and tomography.

Granted, but then your OS has to be reactivated again (something Windows is notorious for doing when swapping out hardware such as RAM)

I wish I could swap places with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.

Anyone here still use Windows 7? I have an HP with it installed, but I stopped using it as the laptop is very poor. The mouse is very jumpy, the battery is toast, and internet only works with Ethernet, so I may as well transplant its components into a desktop case since I have to treat it like that. The laptop actually is a tri-boot of Windows Vista, 7, and 8.1. I've mentioned this laptop before, but am not sure if I mentioned the year I got it, which was 2015. I could not use USB to install Vista, so I had to use DVD (lucky that I had a 64bit Vista disk).

I did however, find a used Dell Windows 7 laptop on ebay for very cheap (around $65), which will replace the HP. I am going to use this Dell for my Nintendo Homebrew excursions and everything else that is not related to my school work. I am currently doing my homebrew stuff on my new laptop, but that should change later this week when the "new" laptop is dropped off from USPS.

More than likely after getting it, I will be ripping the bad boy open to see what components are inside of it, namely Hard Drive type as I have a spare 500GB, and want to see if that would fit in. This would be temp as I may invest in an SSD around Christmas (Your suggestions on cheap SSD's are greatly appreciated), battery type, and to see if it needs any cleaning (I.E. Dust). The laptop comes with Windows 7, but I am going to wipe it and replace it with... Windows 7, BUT, the Ultimate edition since I have an ISO, and a way to activate it, plus, it's the highest SKU of 7 available that comes with the home premium stuff as well as the educational and professional stuff. This is what I used on the HP, plus it helped me with a whole week of school work dedicated to Windows 7 (I'm not kidding. Week 4 focused on Windows 7, 5 on Windows 8.1, and 6 on Linux, namely Ubuntu) since I did not need to use the school-provided ISO in an insanely slow virtual machine.

Well, that sums that up. As I asked at the beginning, anyone still using Windows 7, whether it be on actual hardware or a virtual machine? Do you like it? What do you use it for?

P.S. If you are installing Windows 7 directly to a USB a la Windows ToGo with Hasleo WinToUSB on a computer that officially supports 7 as well as USB 3.0, do not install the 3.0 drivers after installing Windows 7. Upon reboot, the external HDD will not be "detected", and you'll have to reinstall due to a Blue Screen of Death 0x07b error.
