So for a while now I have been using the Unity3D game engine as my main way to develop games. However on the side I have been learning C++, which is a language that while it can be inconvinient at times, it is very powerful. I have been thinking that I could use C++ with Unreal engine to make games. However a much more interesting idea has popped into my head. Making games from scratch with C++. For a while now I have seen people make games from scratch using OpenGL or SFML. I want to do the same with C++. The problem is that I don't even know were to start with this. With Unity, there are many tutorials out there to get newbies started with Unity3D. The same cannot be said with OpenGL. SFML does have some good tutorials and is easier to learn but it is much more limited than OpenGL since I only see people making 2D games with it. So the point is, How can I get started with learning how to make games from scratch with C++?

You could use SDL, it takes care of stuff like creating windows and handling input for you. It'll also let you use OpenGL if you want.

That sounds great! But how would start learning OpenGL and SDL?

Learn programming by doing so.
It's really the only real way!

You can't do something that you don't know how to do.

Not literally that, but you're still allowed to take sample code, take them into pieces, and see what they do.
That's how I learnt PHP, as well as C, C++, C#, Java (ew...), etc.

I also learnt a lot by Google-ing up every time I've got stuck.

Oh, I see. That may be good strategy for learning how to use OpenGL with SDL since there are not many tutorials out there. Thank you for that, I will try it.

I regret going from 7 to 10. As ironic as that may sound, it is true.

So as some of you know, I have been looking for a way to make games from scratch. After some research and thinking, I believe that SFML is the best way to go for me. It is less complicated than using OpenGL with SDL and is very fast. hence the name Simple Fast Multimedia Library. It is compatible with C++ and a variety of other languages. But of course, I always must ask, what is your Opinion on SFML? Have you ever used it? I would love to hear thoughts from you all.

We got to see some new gameplay for super mario odyssey. Not only that but mario+rabbids kingdom battle looks interesting. Mario can use his hat to possess people, animals, and objects. He basically became a ghost. All jokes aside, the game looks fun in my opinion and I will probably pick the game up once it comes out. What are your opinions on the subject?

It just looks like a kirby wannabe to me :/

In a way, I can see that but I don't think that will hurt my enjoyment of the game.

Strange, It just so happens that I am working on a similar project called Atelerix-Shell. It is still in the works of course. I am using C++. I began working on the project back in November. If you want to check it out, you can find it here.

Not much to be honest, Might go to some hotels up in Orlando with my family. I have really just been spending each day either programming or enjoying some games.
