Hello everyone of kuribo64. I am very new to this website as you can most likely tell from my profile. I am interested in hacking the 3DS. I was wondering if anyone knows what programming language is used for the 3DS? I have done some of my own research and found that most people would say C/C++. Is this true? An answer would be very appreciated.

So I have been Interested in developing for 3DS for a while now. I tried following the steps on the ninjhax website but when I got to the scan qr code part my 3DS just kept sending me to the main menu and saying that an error has occured and then it restarts. I put the Boot.3dsx file in the root of my SD card so there should not be a problem but for some reason there is. Any solutions?

I download this SM64DS editor and I have all the files. However there is no application file for me to launch so how do I use it? I also downloaded another editor for New super mario bros ds and it worked just fine.

So I have recently got this editor for new super mario bros on ds. It works good so far but I was wondering if there are any tutorials or refrence on how to use the editor. The name of the editor is nsmb-editor-379. The name of the application itself is NSMBe5.

I know that C/C++ are good languages for hacking Nintendo games but are those the two ONLY languages that you can use? For example what if I wanted to use C# instead?

So I have been wanting to make my own homebrew applications for the nintendo 3DS for a while now. The problem is there is not really many tutorials out there that teach how to do this kind of stuff. I have heard C++ is the go to language for hacking mario games and such. So do any of you happen to know any good online courses about C++? Right now I know a good amount about C# but that language really is not meant for hacking mario games or making homebrew applications.
Any answers?

Cool program. I actually have some amount of experience with C#. I mostly use it in unity3D and Console applications. I don't have a lot of experience with windows forms applications though.

What skills do we need to help you out with this project? I know C# and am currently learning some C++. If I can help in a programming way just let me know. Although I have never done in any rom hacking before so it will be a new experience.

Hello everyone. So for the past month I have been learning C++ programming for several reasons. The first is that I wanted a language that I can use for a variety of different projects. The second and most Important reason was that I wanted to get into some video game hacking. I first found out about kuribo64 when I was watching videos about this thing called super mario galaxy 2.5 project. This is one of the reasons I got into programming to begin with. To my dismay however I soon found out the project was cancelled and there was nothing I can do to help. That did not stop me though. I kept on learning programming languages and here I am now with C++. So I only one question for you all. How exactly do I get started with hacking nintendo games like mario and such?

well in order to "hack" Mario games, look for existing tools. If you can't find any, study the formats yourself and document them, and then make a reader/writer.

What exactly do you mean by study the formats? The file formats perhaps? and if that is the case how would you go "study" a file format. Do you want me to look into the code and see how it is written or am I interpreting this wrong?

The mario game for the switch looks like it was made with the unreal engine to me. Honestly though, I don't know what tools nintendo uses to develop their games but I would really like to know.

NSMB2 hacking has become quite popular in the past week. I was looking through the forums of kuribo64 and found multiple projects already in development. Most of these projects are asking for help from people. Commonly a C++ programmer. I have been learning C++ for a while now and I know how to use pointers, classes, functions/methods, etc. I really want to help out with these projects in development but two things stand in my way. I don't think I am at the skill level yet to professionally program in C++ and even if I was what would I need to know in order to help out. What I mean is API's and libraries. So as always I come with a question. As a C++ programmer on a team that is developing an NSMB2 hack, what would I need to know about C++? As in tools I would have to be familiar with to help develop.

know how it actually works, first. using c++ skills with no information how the game works is bleh.
What do you mean? Understanding memory management or something like that?

NSMB DS would be a good reference. See how that game handles things (look through the header files and code examples).
Sounds cool. Were can I find those code examples and header files?
