Funny how people complain about W10 updates while on W7 there are like 5 updates a week, versus one per month at most on W10.

I think the problem is how forced they are, but that doesn't seem that accurate? could just be me though I'm pretty young lol

But yeah, Windows 10 forces updates down your throat. And when you're on a shitty slow school network, that takes forever, it's even more ugh. Just imagine businesses that need to do something important and then an update rolls out meaning they can't do it on time :(

Last view: 2673 days ago 		They got rid of those but added spying and forcing updates. Hence why RAM usage on 7 from a clean install to a fully updated install goes up by over 400MB.

services.msc, kill the fucker from there (stop it and tell it to never start again)

keep in mind that a few things can reenable it, but usually you will notice its unwelcome presence


there is that security update against the leaked NSA exploits, tho. you can download it and install it standalone, just like pretty much any update. maybe doing so reenables Windows Update as a side-effect, I don't remember.

...to clarify this for anyone else reading this thread, you can set the Windows Update Services' startup type to "Disabled" to prevent it from starting.

I have it installed and can verify that, atleast on Windows 8.1, it does not re-enable Windows update. You have to temporarily re-enable the service to install it, but it doesn't even try to stop you from disabling it again afterwards.

I remember it did.

I had downloaded the update package from MS's website directly. I guess the installer still needs WU functionality to do its thing.

Windows 10 is good, but would be better if they added the windows 7 theme complete with start menu and all its icons, the windows classic theme, and for the people that liked it, the windows 8 theme, and maybe even the windows xp theme if possible to port. Windows 10 serves my needs great and only asks for a credit card 98% of the time, down from 100%. This is part of their "new" verification process to ensure you're not a bot, however, that is getting replaced with ReCaptcha, which may occur when you open something such as the start menu. The credit card thing may also occur when you open apps as well, if it does, use a Monopoly Electronic Banking Card.
