After Nintendo took down our trailer it seems they have gone after our files too. I have received a message from my trusty file uploader saying that Nintendo has requested a take down on the demo files for Riivolution, as well as the installer. I don't remember where else the links might still be lingering around since YouTube was our main mean of communication, but they found them either way. If anyone is still interested in the files, please tell me and I will do my best to (find, first and foremost and) re-upload them.

Both files accounted for around 60.000 downloads combined.

I'm still interested in them, I find it odd though they would go after such a long dead project

I wonder how Nintendo chooses which projects it wants to take down. I have an impression that they just attack stuff they randomly see on youtube.

^Pretty much that too. I mean, what to they have to lose from it? People already hate the living hell out of them for going after having this beastly dinosaur attitude towards fan creations.

Yeah, it sucks a lot. They should act like Sega in this situation, because Sega embraces fan games. As for why they'd take it down, sometimes it's for no good reason, but other times it's because they're making something similar already. So now there's like a 0.00000001% chance (Up from 0%) that they're making Galaxy 3. But the reasoning for taking down a long dead SMG2 hack demo because it could "hurt" SMG3 is beyond me.

when they said they were making a sort of SMG3, it was actually Odyssey.

and you can't compare Odyssey to a SMG hack. they are just looking for excuses to be the only popular ones, to make more money.

It’ll drive off more people and Nintendo will lose more money. They’re just punching themselves in the face. :P

fans lose thier stuff too, though. that's the issue.

also as if you'd hold off buying Odyssey because Nintendo forbid you to spread your ROMhack. they may be stupid with the whole Youtube thing going on but they have power over the market. people won't be driven away.

>power over the market

tell that to most people, and you’ll be laughed in your face

Nintendo are ridiculously antiquated and that’s the reason I don’t care at all about the company anymore, I don’t even want to buy a switch on the grounds of their awful treatment of fans, they should just work on PC games and they’d probably be more successful in the mainstream market.

Like seriously, why would you take down fan projects, I could understand if you were making money without permission, but um, not if you’re just doing it as a hobby.

TBH, I don't see why they would take down a really old & dead ROM hack. Sure, they might not have known that it was dead, but still, the fact that its around 3 years old (I think) just makes me wonder. Does it really hurt their brand to let this game exist?

it huuuuurts their profit to let something exist that a) is based off their game and b) they make no money over

capitalism~

or maybe they actually like ROM hacks and chose a dead project to take down to show Nintendo's management that they're doing something

We can all agree that it's a very Nintendo move.
