So Photobucket is going down the shitter, but just pulling the plug isn't their thing. Instead, they're attemting an extremely desperate measure where you are required to pay an absurd sum ($400/y) to be able to link your images externally.

So, you are encouraged to stop using it. I updated the postfilter so we don't get their "upgrade to premium" shit all over the place, and to deter people from using it.

Possible alternatives:

* imgur, as long as it doesn't suck (enjoy while it lasts)

* your own hosting space (you can get even a VPS at cheaper rates than Photobucket's premium crap)

* our uploader, as long as you stay reasonable

Thank you.

Hah, reminds me of imageshit a long time ago when it went down the drain.

Why people don't use imgur to quick share photos, I'll never understand :>

imgur hasn't failed me since I knew about it around 2009 when dirbaio suggested we use that :>

imgur is free, and in capitalism, free isn't profitable

so unless it's backed by a generous billionaire, it'll eventually go down the shitter too

Yup, I also never had a problem with that. The cool thing is that my snipping tool allows directly uploading images to imgur so it's perfect for fast sharing :)

I used dropbox for a while but you never know about that too. Also the space you have is limited which might result in deleting older stuff.

For stuff I plan to keep public I directly upload to the board's uploader or my private server.

If google can stay free with their ads, why wouldn't it work with Imgur too?

IIRC it has a store and it uses ads as a revenue, I think that will work for a while, and by the time imgur falls, I'm sure there will already be a better way to share images <:

I imagine most people who use imgur have adblock anyways.

And considering people like me who simply use imgur without visiting their webpage ever by using a sipping tool, they don't earn a single cent.

Also webstorage is expensive. I really cannot imagine how they will be able to keep the system running like this for very long.

Of course, but let's see, people have been talking about that for quite some time.
It may happen next year, or in a couple more :>

So let's just keep using imgur before it falls too <:

Just a FYI: Imgur is prone to block a site if it embeds images by a ton. It happened to another site I go to.

It won't be long before crapobucket, well, kicks the bucket.

This is just a quick cash grab to squeeze every last cent out of their awful image uploader.

Unfortunately I can see Imgur being next. I've seen some weird design decisions from them recently. Not many, but I'm going to save myself some trouble now to prevent me from having to worry about it later.

I'll probably keep using it for non-important "mostly temporary anyway" images though.

Imgur stopped being good when they got tired of being used as a Reddit image host and decided to implement their own comments section to steer people away from Reddit.

• Nadia: makes her BQFX file an AJ7
• SuperHackio: questions what that is
<~StapleButter> the AJ7 is an automatic rifle model based on the well-known AK47

I actually think this is a pretty useful feature: now you don't have to make a reddit account you know you're just gonna use for a single site anyway if you don't already have one. And even if you do, it's quicker to just use the comment section.

I can't upload images to Imgur with my Gamepad for some reason. IDK what they did with the upload button.

Yeah, their web design has been broken on Wii Us for a while, and Google Drive is also too much for it to handle. For uploading Wii U screenshots, I setup an HTTP file server, on Windows you can follow this guide.
