Well, what else can people do? This is action.

the Paris climate agreement, action?

even without getting into revolution crap, there's a lot of shit we could be doing, and we aren't doing.

we could be pushing alternate energy sources way more aggressively.

lots of fun facts about cars

but...

Another time, in 1990, the California government tried to institute its own zero-emissions regulations, which the car and oil companies fought until they finally bullied California out of it and the regulations were removed in 2003.12 The problem is, giant companies have enough influence that any government attempt at making changes through regulation ends up being watered down to the point where it’s ineffective.

this is why people need to get out of their little bubble and organize together. the other choice is staying within the grip of big corporations and watching them ruin everything because "there's nothing we can do. there's no alternative".

it's like food for example. if we got together we could organize our own food production and have an alternative to "buy our chemical-packed crap that has travelled through the whole world, or pay more to get the same but organic". we could collectively decide how the food is produced and what goes into it, instead of having opaque megacorporations taking their own decisions that only benefit their business and pissing on their consumers.

does this sound like utopia for you?

eating normal, local food isn't utopia, it should be the normality. the current world is a pile of nonsense. and yet people have normalized it under the pretexts that "this is the best system we can get" and "there is no alternative" and "humans are bad anyway".

humans are bad, y'say? they're all greedy fucks? which is why the system is as it is?

inverse cause and effect.

when you put them into a system where they need to find money to even survive, with no alternative because everything has been privatized, and getting money only keeps getting harder because a minority wants more and more, how do you think it is going to go?

obviously not good.

Actually, for the first time, I wholly agree with you @StapleButter. In Science&Vie, I read that if we wanted to, France could be 100% renewable energies for electricity in 2050. This is just about finding the right middle between Mélenchon's 'shutdown all nuclear plants with magic' and Fillon's 'let's keep old 70 yo reactors going until they explode'.

yup.

we also need to change our ways. there is no way the current society, which is based on reckless consumption, can be completely eco-friendly.

which is another example why the spirit of community and sharing is important.

for example, suppose you have something and you don't want it anymore.

"oh, I'll just throw it away!"

and it gets destroyed when it could very well have served somebody else.

this kind of decision is fueled by the general individualism and general lack of local structures for sharing things. not everybody is willing to use eBay & co.

and this goes hand in hand with capitalism, which would rather have you buy new items instead of reusing old ones.

this leads to completely fucking absurd things, like for example, people getting charged with "theft of waste" for salvaging shit from mall dumpsters. I'm not joking about this, this really is how absurd our world is.

also reminds me of those electric segway things, that are marketed as green.

green? ahahahahahahah

so just because it doesn't use oil, you can magically slap a "green" label on it?

one could very well use a bike, it's the same speed and it's actually entirely green, it consumes no energy other than yours. unlike consuming electricity for that gadget segway thing to move your fat ass for you.

Mariner East 2 Pipeline drilling accidentally damages aquifers, which ends up polluting well water with things that are less than good.

it's nice that you're trying, Sunoco, but no amount of fabric walls is going to hide the truth.

well, I guess impeaching Trump does make some sense, that'd atleast put an end to his nostalgia-fueled shenanigans.

Even if it were possible, no matter how many people we impeach, it's terrible Republicans (redundant phrase) and a couple corporatist independents all the way down the line.

Even if we were to try to impeach those two

we still have, you know

the Republiconnards

nothing will be done thanks to their spineless unwavering party loyalty over reality and their country, buttressed by the blindest and densest of the Trump supporters and hopelessly gerrymandered districts

I mean

EVERY ? SINGLE ? CALIFORNIAN ? HOUSE ? REPUBLICAN ? voted for the atrocious AHCA. EVERY ONE OF THEM.

As well as voter suppression and electronic vote rigging, which have given Republicans numerous unearned victories for the past 20 or so years.

It's not voter suppression

it's VOTER ID

get it right

At this point, there are even nastier tricks than voter ID, like a fraudulent list of voters to purge adopted by Republican election officials around the country.

Would it be too much of a hassle if we switched back to pen-and-paper voting? :P
