160. 256 is a bit too many for the puny DS to handle. Hence, "Excerpt from"

@SGC
Try this version: Excerpt from Super Mario 256: Invalidate Instruction Cache

I tried the patch you gave me, but it still crashes, sadly.

In addition, try this one: Excerpt from Super Mario 256: Invalidate Data Cache

You need to open the command prompt, cd to the folder of xdelta3.exe, and type xdelta3.exe -d -s <unmodified European SM64DS ROM filename> <Excerpt from SM256 xdelta fileame> <name of new ROM>.

I am using Windows 7 and the command prompt it's not recognizing where the the directory is neither can it find it. I wish I could have a tutorial on how to do it I am very good with actual patch files but not this yet.

You may find it easier to just use the GUI. You'll need to delete the included xdelta.exe, rename the v3.0.11 executable to "xdelta.exe" and place it in the same directory as xdelteUI.exe.

The game seems to crash when I entered the first level. How do I fix this?

Can you pull up the debug screen?
(L+R+Left+A, Down+B, Start+Select)

And if you're using a flashcard, what flashcard are you using?

Man this hack looks really cool! ;D
Are you also planning to use custom characters? Maybe it is possible to import Waluigi without replacing another character via ASM hacking.

It will be extremely hard to do. The code all over the ROM assumes that there are 4 characters. The player's structure also assumes 4 characters, and changing that would mean changing the offsets of all the fields after that, which means more fixing.

TL;DR: Practically impossible.

It might, however, be possible to have one character behave as and look like a different one depending on a different field.

I did those steps.
Used the patch for that said part.
Source file for the European ROM
Saved the output file and all I get is errors.

EDIT: I used the data cached version and it worked good.

I am using R4 3ds upgrade SDHC (I am not using a 3ds but it's still work with the ds)

Lol riding yoshi in this game feels so weird lol.
Even the ridable models of the Plumbers look incomplete.

no$gba and DeSmuME need to implement data caches.
StapleButter, can you implement a data cache in melonDS?
