Seeing that Nintendo is now launching their next system with a proper 3D Mario instead of another New Super Mario Bros. game, hopefully this means the rudimentary, boring New Super Mario series is over!
I actually really really loved the DS game, the Wii one was okay, but then New Super Mario Bros. 2 and U just fell off the cliff for me. These games were such blatant copy n' pastes of the Wii version. Same engine, same graphics, same enemies, same music, wasn't innovative AT ALL. Then we get even MORE of the same with the NSMBu engine in Mario Maker and Super Mario Run. Multiplayer doesn't make up for a bland-ass game. Hopefully if there's ever another 2D Mario, it's a proper, original followup to Super Mario World that isn't just a blatant cash grab. |

I loved NSMBWii more than NSMBDS. But anything past that had a 'more of the same' feeling. Then again, I'm interested into the technical side of ROM hacking, getting into the game etc. New Mario games had zero value in that regard, mostly reusing the same engines.
Anyway, that's not what makes a good game. NSMBU would be... okay-ish. NSMB2? Absolutely uninspired. The new games got new levels, but aside from that, eeeeh... NSMB2 is just coin extravaganza where you end up with 704 lives, absolutely ridiculous. Anyway, that's good. ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Posted by MK7tester I mean, I actually like all of the NSMB games. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. ____________________ A nobody. |

I enjoy all of the NSMB games, the only thing I agree that they should change is the music. As NintendoFan said, look what 'innovation' did to the Paper Mario series, which was one of my favourite series of game. Now it's terrible. ____________________ Sorry for the maintenance -- we'll be back soon! |

Posted by NintendoFan I'd rather have them try to innovate then stick with the same formula. If the formula gets stale, you change the formula. The difference here is that Sticker Star was too much change for the worse, with every NSMB there has been too little change, therefore the formula has become stale. It's not broken, its stale. |

If you have a problem with the main series Mario games being too stale, then I don't know what to tell you except that you should turn to the Mario modding community for (probably) more creative works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ____________________ A nobody. |

Posted by MK7tester Mmm, I'd rather have another New Super Mario Bros. with multiplayer than a single-player Mario extravaganza. I'm one of those people that has an identical twin that's always around to play with me and we always want to play with each other. |

Posted by LeftyGreenMario Your sister says the same thing, and while I respect your opinion. I disagree immensly. Single player 3D Marios seem like they have 100000 times more effort put into them. Even 3D World felt like it was miles ahead of anything NSMBU had to offer, and that's my least favorite 3D Mario game. |

Yeah, it's fine to disagree.
What's not fine is when people think it's a disgusting opinion to have or we're wrong in the head, which is exactly what some losers in GameFAQs said when she said that. It's mainly because me and my sister grew up in extraordinary circumstances (having an identical twin sister that shares nearly identical views, opinions, and have a very similar personality and maybe writing style?) that lead us to have a relatively rare stance of preferring things like Mario Party and Mario Sports immensely over proclaimed masterpieces like Galaxy, Super Mario 64, Even then, though, Super Mario 3D World failed to impress me, though it's more fun than New Super Mario Bros. U. Super Mario 3D Land might be the last single-player Mario game I was able to finish. I don't think they have 100000 times more effort, but I think they tried a bit harder, but still came out with a relatively safe product, so I think it's merely better than New Super Mario Bros. U, but not tons better. I still enjoyed Newer Super Mario Bros. over 3D World though, so it's not the medium I seem to like, it's the creativity and customization. |

I personally love the NSMB series. Although it disappoints me that it isn't the most innovative, I love having new levels to play (plus I'm Mario Maker'd out).
I wouldn't die if there was another SM3Dx title, either. The levels are very fun to play and master, plus there are cool shortcuts to enjoy when you really get to know the game. I also love the retro games like SM64 and SMB3. SMW not so much. Don't like the level design or the physics of that one. Feels stiff and too random. |

I like the NSMB series too, growing up with NSMB and beating it time and time again over the years have made it my favourite 2D platformer of all time. The levels were fun, I liked the new powerups (Blue koopa shell in particular) and the multiplayer modes were AMAZING. Co-op would've been incredible, but the battle mode was just soo much fun. Minigames were cool too, I've spent hours playing them with my one friend who also likes them.
I never actually finished NSMBWii, since I never owned the game, but I did enjoy it a lot the few times I've played it. NSMBU was... fine. It felt kinda bland. It was easy and I beat it pretty quickly. I do love SM64 (And SM64DS even more!) just because it's so different from most other Mario games. I've played through 3D Land a bit, and tbh it feels a bit... lacking? It doesn't have the same vibe as SM64, with its linear levels instead of open world levels. It's alright, but I'd rather play any NSMB game. Overall... NSMB games aren't amazing, but worth playing if you're a Mario fan. That's my opinion. ____________________ No, not doing SM64DS hacking, just here for the waffles. |

I think they're right on par with "masterpieces" like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. They play just like those two, and they are just as hard as those two. People just harp on New Super Mario Bros. because it is New Super Mario Bros. and it did little to build upon anything since New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The problem is that the latter games just recycled things. An underground level with a raft and a light switch? A roller coaster level? It just begins to wear on you.
Super Mario 64 isn't really open-world, but its environments were much bigger than your average Mario game, which gives the impression of open-world. |

Ehh... I found SMB3 a LOT harder than NSMBU. And yeah, while open world isn't really the correct term... it's more exploration based than every other SMB game. ____________________ No, not doing SM64DS hacking, just here for the waffles. |

Perrrrhaps. But people tend to look down on New Super Mario Bros. for being too easy while Super Mario World is comparatively easy as well... or comparatively hard. Whatever suits better.

I've never played through SMW tbh, I couldn't say, but I'm sure SMB3 is harder than NSMBU at least. ____________________ No, not doing SM64DS hacking, just here for the waffles. |

New Super Mario Bros. is a continuation of the classic 2D Mario platformers and I'm honestly frankly tired of the traditional 2D Mario formula. A bunch of other 2D platformers this generation has evolved more than this dinosaur and as a result are far more fun to play in. Hell, even some of Nintendo's own 2D platformer franchses, Kirby and Donkey Kong, have bested Mario in that department, having more interesting level design, more fun gameplay, and just less regurgitated concepts in general.
If 2D Mario continues to stagnate in the form of the same ugly artstyle, the same stiff platforming, the same aesthetics, the same level designs, the same level concepts, then consider me done with the 2D Mario series. I'd rather spend money on indies like Shantae or Shovel Knight and other games like Kirby or Rayman and I know for certain they'll be funner than Mario these days. |
