I would first like to point out that Hillary Clinton actually got more votes. Donald Trump only won because of the "Electoral College" system, AKA not even an actual democracy.
Second, I would like to point out this: We're screwed. |

Clinton supporters made fun of Trump supporters for "being dumb cause they follow Trump", yet they are complaining about the democratic system, beating up Trump supporters and making up unreasonable assumptions about the new presidency. This makes them seem foolish and immature, something they think they are better than. It's really stupid. Also, having more of the popular vote is important sure, but it was actually very close, and by land area, Trump won by a landslide, all of Clinton's support was concentrated in the cities. I think the electoral college is a but screwed up but I think it follows kind of right principles, because if it wasn't for that, non-urban votes would be useless. |

That's a generalization. I'm not a Trump nor Clinton supporter, but I bash on some Trump supporters for reasons different than why I hate the Democratic system.

Posted by PixelDimension The USA is a representative democracy, it has been this way for quite a while, and both candidates knew that it would be about the electoral votes. The 'popular vote' means absolutely nothing, and never will. If I remember correctly, the 'popular vote losing' thing has happened before, which means that there have been plenty of opportunities to fix it, right? Well, the process hasn't been changed, and whining about it now that your favorite candidate didn't win by popular majority isn't going to change anything either. ____________________

I hate Hillary, and consider her worse than Trump, but there's reason to question Trump's victory. Trump outperformed the exit polls in almost every state, which is statistically nearly impossible. And large counties in a couple swing states (Ohio and North Carolina, at least) exhibit a statistical pattern that implies vote shifting to Trump. Similar signs have appeared in several past elections with fingerprints of GOP election theft (like the 2000 and 2004 presidential races).
This doesn't mean I think the election should be overturned, however. Why? Because these same exact signs also showed up in the Democratic primaries, to Hillary's benefit and Bernie's detriment. Hillary was a completely illegitimate candidate, and she got exactly what she deserved for that. But ultimately, Bernie should have been the one to run. He'd have been able to defeat Trump handily, and likely overcome any GOP fraud as well. |

Posted by Hiccup Bernie was extremely popular, and retained that popularity as he became more well-known. Both Hillary and Trump are hated by most people. There are very few attacks that would work against him, and the socialist label didn't seem to dog him. |

Just referring to what Staplebutter said a few posts ago about Capitalism, I think I heard that Social Democracy should replace what we have now. Social democracy retains capitalism, but has regulations and social welfare programs (like single-payer healthcare, unemployment benefits, and retirement pensions). |

I just find it peculiar that mainstream outlets/citizens now questioning the electoral college system. Hello? We've had about 300 years of these elections on planet earth. I'm not necessarily talking about any of you (I haven't read most of the comments), but the fact that so people are just now finding out how the election system works, and that it's suddenly issue to voters who had their candidate lose? That says too much.
As a person with Multiple Citizenship, I took the time to research both candidate's policies and really determine what was best for the nation. Independent of "Hillary kills people", and "Trump hates Mexicans", I took into consideration their past convictions (if any), what they stated in their policies, and could easily see past the media bias, celebrity endorsements, and nasty political ads. It was no competition. As for this awful election, I wouldn't blame the American people entirely for this ordeal. It was fixed to get Hillary in, and in addition to possibly trying to get the one person Hillary could beat against her, Trump basically won the support of the older generation who actually cared to vote. It ended in a way noone expected, but hopefully that's for the better. We'll all be watching America the next four years, and we'll see if Trump is a good president. In the future, take time to adequately review candidates, campaign for them, and vote. Not "I'm not voting for Trump because... his policies (?)/he's a meme" or "Hillary killed people/corrupt politician" - do the research yourself. I was absolutely disgusted by the nation with this campaign. Not because they were mindlessly stating facts that were untrue, but for the ones that were, they knew no background information other than whatever statement they heard on the news/Laci Green's twitter. It's just the fact that I have a Muslim friend who's legitimately fearing for her life because Trump won. She thinks she can't go through with here marriage, and that Trump wants to deport/harm Muslim citizens. WTH? From what I've seen here, (now having read some comments) most of you seem to have done your own research, so that's very nice. Keep it up, and hopefully we'll do better next time! Reject the fear mongering, educate yourself, and (God willing), we'll have a good president in the US again someday. |

well, I know that a certain group of people would have protested even if Clinton got elected. those are typically anarchists. also, I love that fascist moves in France always gather ridiculous amounts of people. Meanwhile, most progressives and liberals would have completely ignored her unwillingness to act. Having an obvious threat to climate action gives a clearer enemy to coalesce against. |
