Hello everyone. So for the past month I have been learning C++ programming for several reasons. The first is that I wanted a language that I can use for a variety of different projects. The second and most Important reason was that I wanted to get into some video game hacking. I first found out about kuribo64 when I was watching videos about this thing called super mario galaxy 2.5 project. This is one of the reasons I got into programming to begin with. To my dismay however I soon found out the project was cancelled and there was nothing I can do to help. That did not stop me though. I kept on learning programming languages and here I am now with C++. So I only one question for you all. How exactly do I get started with hacking nintendo games like mario and such?

You only technically need HANS, so the more accurate question is, have a primary exploit game or an 11.0 or less 3DS? List of all exploit games are here, but if you have 11.0 or less you don't need one, and if you have 10.7 or less you can follow this.

well in order to "hack" Mario games, look for existing tools. If you can't find any, study the formats yourself and document them, and then make a reader/writer.

Beginners often look for 'how to romhax' tutorials, but... there's no such thing. How you will proceed depends on what you want to modify, what kind of data you're looking for, etc.

What exactly do you mean by study the formats? The file formats perhaps? and if that is the case how would you go "study" a file format. Do you want me to look into the code and see how it is written or am I interpreting this wrong?

As for making a converter, here's a quote from Takis (author of BMDView) on emutalk:

"Hm, basically I open a file in a hex editor, look at it until I see what some of the bytes could mean, write a little program to test it my assumptions work, and if it works for about 5 different files I assume that my guess was right and I move on to the next block."[/i

Everything depends on the game you want to Hack, because in the end, there is no 1 Tool for everything solution, not even Geri's Every File Explorer can do everything (apart of the many Bugs, but that's a story for another time).
