Or forums that don't let you view profiles unless you have an account. Are they trying to block out people from stalking or something? |

bugmenot comes to the rescue (well, most of the time)
Posted by RanAS well, yeah I don't know how much resources vBulletin or Xenforo require, but Discourse is said to require 1GB of RAM which is utterly insane-- this board doesn't even consume 1MB per page load ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

What's possibly causing all of this RAM traffic jam? I can't imagine except for frivolous show-off coding.

using several layers of code like coding standards dictate, or whatever
god forbid you write straightforward code, it needs 17 layers of abstraction and objects for everything well atleast they didn't code it in Hipsterscript ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Posted by LeftyGreenMario This so much I hate it when websites restrict it so you have to have an account. It's just an extra inconvenience and a gigantic annoyance to people who don't care about talking to others. |

I don't see how that could benefit them either, forcing people to make accounts. Does it boost their ego to have a higher user count (aka the whole google+ youtube incident) |

Probably being desperate to entice users for more board activity or something like that. It's sad that they don't seem to get the message that it's annoying.

It's hopefully just a fad.
Then again, it really depends on what Microsoft and Apple does seeing as they were the ones who started the whole simple design thing. |

I personally don't have a huge problem with the design as long as it's clean but not too boring.

Sometimes websites and apps have to go to such an extent of making stuff clean and simple to the point where they remove features (such as Apple products) |

Posted by Tierage It's to make the site look more """active""" to the uninformed because of all the dump accounts used only to download one file "Wow 100,000 users! Must be a really active community I'll join" Posted by TheKoopaKingdom Yes. Especially since it does nothing to make page loading faster, there's still going to be 50 flash elements and 20 more pointless HTML/CSS effects. Though, really, the only experience with terrible web design I've had to my memory is Youtube. I generally stick to ROM hacking boards and wikis which are generally pretty good about it. |

Hm, I give it to you that, but it's has nothing to do with the design itself, but with the tacky effects splattered on them.
Hey, any of you dislike using sites like Mediafire and crapobucket primarily because it takes a decade to load your content and when it scrolls, it lags, but Dropbox and Imgur seem to not have this problem? |

Modern designs are confusing, especially all those single page Websites, that all have a menu, which just gets you to a lower point of the page.
Also, normal Websites having a huge arse Banner/Logo need to die, that's simply eye cancer! |

Posted by MercuryPenny Modern web programming! You need to use Javascript for everything! The top of modernity: your site is a frame that AJAX-loads a frame that AJAX-loads frames for each bit of content, which in turn AJAX-load the content and don't forget to handle all the browsing aspect, reinvent scrolling, and hell, even reinvent the way the browser renders the page! Make it be a canvas and slap your own Hipsterscript web renderer on it! with all that, your website is guaranteed to be performant! deh, whatever, I'm sticking to the Acmlmboard design, maybe it's not particularly good but atleast it doesn't try to step on the browser's toes and it's efficient ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Posted by Yami Okay, that's tacky as hell. Even some official government sites fell into the "modern sleek hip cool" trap and I think it got hugely criticized for its layout. I like gnomon btw, but I dislike its page. It got a huge ass animated banner and it's pretty difficult to navigate. |

Posted by StapleButter While I do have moderate thoughts towards AJAX and jQuery (aka, only use it when needed, not to just look cool), it's nearly impossible to find a professional WebDev job, if you don't know any jQuery, AJAX, Bootstrap, Magento (App), Symphony, Zend Framework, Angular.js, and all the other bullshit Frameworks at the same time. Next to these Frameworks, you also need to know how to OOP, MVC, etc., as if clean Code wouldn't function anymore, these days... I mean, it's all unnecessary, stupid, and impossible at the very least! |

procedural code isn't cool anymore, you need to make everything an object
(as a clarification, I don't hate OOP, I'm all for using it where it makes sense and not for every damn thing) but alas, web dev is going bullshit (new rule, according to Youtube: testing your code isn't cool anymore either) ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

@Yami I haven't even heard of half those. The thing about frameworks/libraries is that they should be utilized only when necessary - not exist as a default part of a developer's arsenal. Unfortunately whoever is in charge of posting jobs is clueless regarding tech, or worse, the one in charge of the tech is just as clueless.
I've heard of cases in which people have tried to build sites within Smarty. Forget your fully functional interpreted language, you should use a 'language' interpreted within that. That's the very definition of insanity! I do wonder where this 'perverted' mindset came from that the extensive use of frameworks/libraries are essential, and who defines what "modern" practices are. My best guess would be those scene kids who turned to hipsters in 2011 wanted to start their obligatory WordPress blogs, desired to add functionality to them, and took over the widely visible 'community'. One thing I want to die is Disqus. You have no control over it, you have to pay for it, and the fact you're paying for/own some form of hosting means you have 0 need to hand the responsibility of handling comments to someone else. It's a scam. Apparently they only test their services on the newest iPhone and Google Chrome for Windows, so good luck getting it to load. It's also one letter away from being called Disqust. |
