A WIP WiiU emulator by ExJam and Brett19. For now, don't ask if it runs NSMBU or SM3DW-- it's not far enough to run anything.

I intend on helping that project once I get a 64bit system going. I'll keep you posted about it, here or on the StapleBlog.

but you'll need a supercomputer to run WiiU games

Depends on how you approach it! See for example: http://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/3ayifk/how_is_xenia_so_fast/

With HLE and a good recompiler, WiiU emulation is definitely feasible.

I tried running SM3DW on it, to see where we're starting from.

It crashes trying to read from 0xFFC00000. Wee.

I think that's the locked-L1 cache, which hasn't been implemented yet.

Oh, blarg. Gotta read more about how that shit is supposed to work.

Is it just some mode where you force the cache to exist as linear memory at a given address? (I remember you can do something similar on the DS)

That's exactly what the locked-L1 cache does. In an emulator, you would just make it appear as linear memory when the locked-L1 mapping is enabled. However, their PPC emulation probably hasn't implemented that at all.

A wii U emulator is indeed in the works, and currently it can boot Super mario bros U and The legend of zelda U!

As of right now, the emulator will not boot any games. It can run a few functions in a few games, but will not render anything.

But, there is actually another emulator by Exzap(not exjam), written from scratch. It's currently nameless, and is being developed privately.
In short, I believe the project does not profit from being open-sourced. Not at this stage at least. We are trying to take a different approach which will hopefully lead to more speedy development. I'll share more details in the future. At present, getting the emulator ready for the release is the top priority.

There are a lot more graphical glitches compared to the current build. Also, speed was increased to 30 FPS. The original capture ran at 5-8 FPS.

Note that these screenshots were "cherry picked from the few games that actually run through the intro", and none go ingame yet.

This new emulator will be released later this month, hopefully :D
now, if only we could easily dump our games...

"the project does not profit from being open-sourced"

just like the community does not profit from it being closed-source, moron

I think he/she means, it doesn't profit as in, nobody is willing to contribute, or nobody knows how to contribute (yet).
As in, ugly Source Code, etc.

That doesn't prevent you from giving out your source code, and there's nothing you lose by giving it out. So why keep it closed? Giving it out can help the scene, by providing details about things that aren't nicely documented for example.

(like how I implemented texture decompression in CoinKiller-- by reading source code, namely from Citra)

Maybe he's actually got some sort of ingenious plan to progress his emulator faster. :P

The emulator by Exzap, now called Cemu, has been released, and is capable of strting and rendering commercial games!

Exzap has also released the source code, which you can find here.
No source code :(

Here's the brief rundown:
- Can run encrypted Wii U images (WUD) and RPX/RPL files
- Internal resolution is 1920x1080 (if supported by game)
- For controller input see here.
- Only gamepad is supported
- Contains basically no optimizations. Expect slow framerates and long load times.
- Windows x64 only (other platforms may be supported later)

...Except there is no source code there.

All there is in the zip/tar.gz is a readme file.

Reeks of SDK-powered work.

Not only does the author not give out the source because "it wouldn't benefit my project" (nevermind that it could be useful to other projects), but he's wasting Github's space. Because being on Github is cool and trendy, but fuck you no source code.

This is overall terrible.

Tried a few Tests:
Mario Kart 8: Crashes the Emulator.
2 Unity Games covered under an NDA: Crashes the Emulator.
System Config Tool: Crashes the Emulator.
G3D Demo: Loads forever.
Friend Manager: Loads at 11 FPS, but doesn't display anything.
Friend Viewer: Crashes the Emulator.

So, usability is 0%, so far.

yeah pretty much saw that coming. no source and quick release. tbh I haven't tried it myself but until now its pretty much confirmed that the source code is horrible, because its rushed most likely.

Would rather wait for a stable good opensource emulator than an unstable rushed closed source one. Still props for making it sort of working I guess
