They basically abuse copyright laws (and Youtube's idiocy) to take your videos down.

Bull-fucking-shit. "jeopardizes Nintendo's IP" my ass. They aren't stealing your money, Nintendo, so stop being assholes. Also, does it really matter that they play old games via emulators? Those games are no longer sold, so there's no loss.

Oh right, there's the VC. A limited and restricted emulator, messing with saves requires breaking a few encryption and verification schemes (and they'll be quick to claim it's illegal), little to no settings, no TAS or anything like that... and mostly, games aren't shared across platforms. You bought a GB game on your 3DS and you want to play it on your Wii or WiiU? Buy it again.

When you download a ROM, atleast it works forever.

I know that they're big money whores, but I think this is just way too much. Like what's the point in taking down their videos for no reason at all. You (Nintendo) don't get any money for that, you just take their videos because you don't wany anyone to look at them? I don't see any other 'legit' reason behind this.

By tomorrow, on 9/11, Nintendo will have rekt everything that goes against their beliefs.

Hail Super Mario Maker!

If they start taking my shit down, I will re-host it on K64's server or somewhere else.

Not that my channel is popular, but oh well

it's doubtful they'll go at anything not popular

I hope they calm down, however if they want to go at it, they might as well just type "custom mario level" and strike all the videos.

I wonder if they will do stuff to the websites though.

Maybe they don't like it when you monetize your videos. But in that case, I'd much prefer that they ask to get a share of it, rather than WE RESPECT OUR FANS BUT WE WILL SHOOT THEM DOWN BECAUSE WE DON'T LIKE HOW THEY USE OUR PRODUCT.

I doubt websites will fall that easily, they need good base material for a proper DMCA complaint. On the other hand, Youtube is dumb and will happily take down any video as long as you say 'copyright infringement', so uh.

Yeah, perhaps its that. I honestly cant seem to lose all the custom level videos I have uploaded over the years.

I don't monetize, and I don't have that many views...

Perhaps things like the custom NSMB level named Springboard power mario or NSMB3 would be the one to bite the dust first, because they have a lot of views.

Perhaps I will seek an alternative page to upload my custom level videos.

Removing speedrunning and romhack videos because "HURR IT HAS MY IP SO I BAN IT!!! XDDD"? Seriously, Nintendo? You might as well take down MFGG because it has content (games, sprites, engines) based off the Mario franchise.

Also, I thought Nintendo was okay with using their IPs... or am I wrong?

Remember that Nintendo is getting new management, likely young so they can run it for awhile. There's a chance this might all be reversed, and they will see the greater picture of it all. You cannot get angry if Nintendo of Japan is handling this, as Iwata likely had this stuff already planned, and the temp management is just carrying out this plan. Either that or the temp management is stupid.

So far, I've noticed it only seems to be affecting Super Mario World ROM hacks, since nobody cares about hacking Mario 1 and 3, and NSMBU doesn't have a released level editor yet, so people will have no choice but to buy Super Mario Maker for custom SMB/SMB3/SMW/NSMBU stuffs.

I imagine that in the meantime, SMB2/SM64/SMS/NSMBDS/SMG/NSMBW/SMG2/SM3DL/NSMB2 hacks will slip by until Nintendo makes Super Mario Maker DLC or "New Super Mario Maker".

My Videos are untouched, but another MK7 Hacker (PabloHack&Glitch) lost his Channel, because of Nintendo.
The ironic thing is, exactly on the day this News Article was Published, I've got 9 new Content ID Matches from Nintendo.

But since yesterday, I started to make my own YouTube Alternative for ROM Hackers:

Don't mind the Design yet, it's in Super Early Alpha, so I need to Design it yet.

Nintendo Anti-Piracy has always been funny. Especially when its like they don't what flash cards are, and start calling them them game copiers or R4s.

Its been released recently. :P

------

If this is all about piracy, why don't they actually take down piracy helping sites, rather than harmless youtube videos?

Making a proper video playback interface is probably not hard. The tricky part is getting a server infrastructure that can provide the bandwidth required by video sharing.

Oh and copyright claims might be sent to your host. Hope they aren't as dumb as Youtube.

So do they think SMM is the end of all ROMhacking?

Luckily they haven't took any of my SMB or NSMBW custom levels down.

They'll go after you if you monetize your shit. After all, that's making money off of their IP, in one way or another.

(but then, instead of being assholes and taking everything down under the name of THE HOLY COPYRIGHT, they could just ask to get a percentage of the profit)
