About WASD... It's because of third-person shooters or generally games where you need to move around your character with the keyboard while also controlling something else with your mouse. Sure, you could use the arrow keys for this, but it wouldn't be as convenient as there aren't as many easily-accessible keys around them to use for actions other than moving...

Am I the only one who is annoyed by people's constant and excessive use of social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc? Surely I'm not the only one. I can give an example; in school, some students are so busy browsing/using said social media websites with their mobile phones that A) they never get any work done, which normally isn't your problem, unless you get grouped with them for a project or assignment, in which case it becomes your problem. (I did) And B) they never pay attention to you or anyone else who is talking to them in person. It becomes rather aggravating I find.

E: Here is a little cross-post from the NSMB Hacking Domain to help you understand my point here.

07/17/15 11:32:46 AM: I just made a sandwich.

07/17/15 11:33:21 AM: I am eating my sandwich.

07/17/15 11:34:36 AM: Pouring myself a glass of milk.

07/17/15 11:35:29 AM: Drinking the glass of milk.

07/17/15 11:37:17 AM: Finished eating my sandwich.

Miiverse in a nutshell.

Another thing I don't like about Miiverse is that people like to host contests that are like "Do this and get a ton of yeahs on your posts" or "do this and I'll become your friend". It gives me headaches.

No quality control, eh? And so it's all useless spam. That is obviously also a major problem with social media.

this is another web-related trend that needs to fucking die

it was apparently started by Chrome (and of course fed by Firefox because Mozilla decided it needs to become Chrome at all costs)

"the http:// prefix in URLs is ugly, we need to hide it"

which causes a lot of morons to post URLs without that prefix

it's bad because things like forums, IRC clients, etc... use all sorts of algorithms to automatically make URLs clickable, but that only works if they have a proper prefix, otherwise you can't really tell them apart from the rest (especially as www subdomains are less and less common)

so basically have fun copypasting URLs manually because some morons decided that http:// was bad and had to be hidden at all costs

and in the meantime, they have no issue with https:// , ftp:// and such

Well, having an http:// prefix as opposed to https:// would show that their site is insecure. That would look pretty bad, and nobody wants that.

it's not insecure unless you're transferring sensitive data (credit card numbers, etc)

regular HTTP is good enough for things like messageboard credentials

besides, your argument is moot; since they show https:// but hide http://, you still notice the difference

Bullshit people on their high horse about how much of a thief you are for using adblock.

How about FTP, then?
FTP is even less secure, so we'd need to hide that as well, then.
However, we'll need to show SFTP and FTPS Prefixes, because these are safe enough. (°ω°)

Another thing in Chrome: Notifications.
It may come over as a nice feature, until you enable Notifications on a Site that's constantly being Updated.
If you do, prepare yourself for some Notification Spam.

Notifications? Is that somewhat like their new RSS feed thing, only more annoying? If it is, it honestly seems kinda pointless to me.

Yes, you can sort of see it like that.
As for the Style, you can compare it to Windows 10 Notifications, but with a white background, and a coloured picture.

It provides you Notifications, even if you're not using that Site, the only condition is, you'll need to allow them for the Site requesting it.

I actually attempted to implement it into the ShoutBox at DSHack.org, but even in my Dev Environment, it annoyed me a whole bloody lot.

and now for more complaining about dumb social media sites

Twitter's "While you were away" section on the top of your feed, aka Twitter trying to be like Facebook or YouTube and just give you random posts out of some bad algorithm rather than, dare I say it, chronological order

If I'm scrolling through a feed looking at what's been said recently from a couple people that I've recently followed, then why would I want to see a few random tweets for some reason? It's not helping anyone, really.

Bad features like these are the reason I stopped browsing sites like Facebook for content, because it doesn't display anything right in order to make everything "convenient and user-friendly".

I wish I can delete horrible comments on deviantart rather than simply flagging them for spam. Well thank goodness the block users functions exist. I hate it when idiots attempt to troll me.

Overall locking stuff behind a "premium" account.

I can understand websites having extra features if you pay, but promoting it and having grayed out links everywhere demanding you pay to use them on websites really gets annoying

deviantart being the most guilty of doing this, next to YouTube with their new "YouTube Red" shit

Yeah, DeviantArt just loves moving content to its premium-only. I remember when journal entries can be customizable, but nope, got to make it premium-only because money money money give me it.

Forums requiring accounts to access images. I know technically it counts as an attachment file, but even then you'd think the people who coded the board software would be smarter than that to at the very least put an exception with image files. Of course, this is a trend with Xenforo and vBulletin, hell, it might even be the default option! That would explain a lot! </rambling>

Project64's forums are very guilty of this, which is bad when people host plugin files there. That means you need to create an account to download the plugins.

Acmlmboard might not be the most updated and recent of forum softwares, but it loads pages way faster than any other one I've seen and I wouldn't doubt it being more lightweight server-wise too since it doesn't have all those "fancy effects" that do nothing other than slow down the page. Those can get specially annoying on mobile, but that's another topic for another day.

Oh yeah, I hate that, restricting the most basic things such as viewing images to account creation. I might "get" attached files, but normal embedded images? No.

There is a site called "mugen archive" or something like that and it requires an account to use the search function. I wanted to punch an admin there.
