pls use metroid texture like style, it shouldn't be hard to make a nice world with blender or something!

Aw, I kinda liked how it currently looks, blocky, but slightly more detailed than Minecraft...

I'm keeping it blocky but stuff is going to have some simple textures instead of just solid colours.

So I haven't posted in about a week, but here's a bit of progress on this. Take a look at this screenshot:

Obviously the health meter in the top left is just a placeholder, but I've been busy making the ammo meter in the bottom left. Basically the game will have seven different colors of shot, each with their own special properties. In the bottom left you can see your ammo for each kind of shot. In that screenshot it's all full. To see what it might more likely look like during gameplay, look at this:

Here, orange is full but the rest aren't -- red's missing a bit, yellow and purple are very low, black is at about half, etc. This screenshot should make it easier to see how the ammo gauge works.

I'm having a lot of fun making this so I'll post more in the future! ;D

This looks pretty neat. I take it that there will be ways of refilling your gun colors?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've never played any of the Metroid Prime games (or any Metroid games at all, for that matter), so I wasn't sure if there was an "armor" gimmick or anything. I covered that, just in case. Also, I've provided the meter in PDN and PSD formats, as well as each layer as a separate PNG image, because IDK what you use for image editing :P

EDIT (lost count): I can't seem to get this post right :/

I'm writing this post as I'm downloading that, so I haven't looked at it yet. Before I look at it let me say I've already got an idea for a life meter.

That actually looks pretty nice, but I don't want to have two similar-looking gauges on the screen at once, both for space and aesthetic reasons. I'm still going to go with my idea, which will be to have the player's health be an outline around the existing ammo meter. I'll post a picture once I get it finished.

And to answer MP's question/assumption, yes there will of course be ammo pickups.

So to make this more visually interesting, I'm thinking about making the game's world look as if it's made out of glass -- like glass blocks, prisms, etc. And maybe have a special white light beam that, when fired into a prism, splits into individual colors, creating a super powerful all-colors attack! Or maybe have stained glass that changes the color of a shot that passes through it. I doubt it'll happen soon since I'll need to find a good shader (or maybe create my own) but that's the idea I'm going for.
