IRC applet broke. Apparently its certificate expired.

• if we want to renew it, it costs money. Applets can't connect to servers unless they're signed with a proper certificate (ie not self-signed).

As for getting a replacement...

• Flash sucks, so it's a no-no.
• a WebSocket based client would bascially make this server act as an IRC proxy. Bad bad bad. See what happened with NSMBHD's qwebirc applet: if too many people connect from the same server, the IRC server G-lines them all.

Mobile layout will be gone when we switch to Acmlmboard anyway. Maybe some basic mobile compatibility will be in, but meh.

The current mobile layout is a pile of hacks.

The mobile layout was only somewhat usable for forum and thread views.

If I do make a new one, it'll atleast be something more usable. But you know how this goes. Mobile layouts are tricky to get right (most of them suck). It's generally better to just keep the desktop layout. It's not the best for mobile browsers, but it's not like they are unable to handle it either.

My phone has a small screen compared to some others out there and I use the normal layout on it.

It's also worth noting that the Acmlmboard layout won't have the dropdowns and other shit from this layout that get painful to use on touch devices.

That's the issue with mobile-optimized layouts. They try to fit shit in your mobile screen without any zoom, but the best font size etc depend on the physical screen size.
