Recreating some stuff for the fun of it :D

Thanks to Stomatol

What?

How did you convert the obj to bdl?

yaz0dec and all those other programs don't seem to work with these models (for me at least)

even MrRean's special program or whatever kept crashing

I edited it in blender of course. I shaded it, then saved as blender file. And right after i used "extended wavefront format" to export as obj format. Then i used obj2bdl v0.4 and took it from there :D

Does it need to be edited in blender? I just export the obj using Gericom's mkds course editor thing and try to use the obj2bdl but it doesn't work

Except it also doesn't work. Because it won't convert my model to bdl format without problems. :P It's super buggy too. You used v1.2 (which could possibly have bugfixes) when i'm stuck with the glitchy version that could be problematic with these types of files. I think i'll just be safe and use obj2bdl next time though.

Export it with Every file explorer, and i beleive it has to be edited in blender ::-)

Oh yeah, I ment this, not Gericom's program, I mixed the two up.

If this ever becomes a full editor, do you have a name for it? Like Whitehole=SMG Hacking.

MrRean, many people have already gotten into the files and are releasing them on Models Resource; one question though,
why do you not share what you export with the public? Imagine all the stuff people can do, sure you can keep those files to
yourself, but many people I know already released some models from Wii U and 3DS games and shared them with the public,
and they're already starting to get files from Mario Kart 8. Ever heard of Random Talking Bush, he's been releasing
most 3DS files and Wii U files. And Nibroc-Rock already released Sonic Boom models. :)

*rolls eyes* I don't think he's the most qualified person to be doing that, and besides, anyone with a 3DS on 4.5 can do the same thing. It's not like one person has access to it.

To be fair, it is kind of like one person has access to it, nobody just doesn't update their 3DS unless they know not to, it is easy to find people who are willing to share unencrypted isos with you though, just keep lookin'.

Well, I've been looking into the files, also.
And Szymbar15, and Ermelber, and Yoshidude4, etc., so it's not just MrRean, going through it.
He is, however, the only one to make his discoveries Public (and possibly Hiccup).

Anyone know of a program that can edit the levels like place items and stuff and then save them :-)?

There very likely isn't one. Unless you count Nintendo's.
It may be very well possible for rudimentary level editing if the BYML format is cracked (It may be similar to XML or CSV).

Actually, there is a ZIP File, filled with Tools to make 3DS-compatible Models, Layouts, Sounds, and whatnot.
However, since these Tools come directly from Nintendo, I'm not sure if I can Link them here.

In the case of SM3DL, all Levels are split into 2 to 6 SZS Files, for some strange reason.
This makes making Custom Levels very unlikely, though.

They're like SMG, they're split into 'zones' where objects are in their own zones to not have a huge file.

"Unlikely"

that just means you need to make a tool which read more files then once. Like whitehole.

Has anybody made an editor for SM3DL yet?
