As you probably already know, I'm a Firefox user. Originally, it was a crashy piece of shit, but I kept it because it was what worked best for me. Then for a while, it was pretty decent. But it has turned into a crashy piece of shit again.

Common symptoms are that after running for a while, repainting screws up majorly and randomly paints your page black. At that point, any little thing can crash the whole thing.

Really Mozilla? Is this how you program? You should work on getting your shit stable instead of copycatting Chrome and losing your personality.

So yeah, I'm curious about which kind of browsers you guys use, and how it works for you. Anything but Chrome please. I don't want Google to spy on me and then start suggesting me searches or some other creepy shit. I'd even rather much use IE over Chrome.

Well as you guys probably know, I use IE, and as I type this post, i'm using IE, its not that bad, its perfectly fine. Only occasionally does it not like to cooperate. The only time I use Google Chrome is when, funnily enough, I am using Google images or Youtube. But yeah, I'm sure there are better browsers apart from Google Chrome.

Look no further than SRware iron. Same as chrome. Its compatible with its themes, that online store, and best of all? It removes the spying things google has.

See here for further comparison:

http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php

It even has a portable version IIRC.

Chrrome! It works best for me. It can be customized and it's fast. I have a gmail account, which makes chrome way easier.

I use Chrome. I use Chrome many years without problems.

I suggest using Chromium. That's Chrome without spying stuff and no random third party bullshit.

EDIT: And it's also for Linux

Well, I have three that you might like…

Internet Explorer - Widely used, and probably the most stable browser in the web. I think it's also the fastest considering that my online games run faster on I.E.

Google Chrome - It ain't that bad. It's actually a pretty good browser. You can disable those “recommendations” on your settings. Google doesn't spy on you.

Opera - Probably the best browser that is fast to load websites on my laptop, but not the fastest for online gaming. I haven't used it in a while, but I do believe it is still really good.

Try these out, and see which works out best for you. :)

Opera can't be that bad compared to what Arisotura describes Firefox as.

I alternate between Chrome and Firefox every few months. Also, strange. Firefox never crashes for me.

Just because you disable the recommendations, doesn't mean Google stops spying on you. They have their ways.

I find that hard to believe. Aren't you over exaggerating this a little?

You don't know Google very well.

Youtube carefully records what you watches, learns your tastes, and suggests you content related to that, instead of suggesting you content related to the video you're watching like they did before.

Gmail scans your emails to give you ads related to their content.

Chrome records your usual searches to suggest you shit based on that.

When you buy shit on their Play Store, Google tries hard to get your credit card number. Trying to pay without giving them your credit card number or your phone number is nearly impossible. And once they have your credit card number, no way to tell them to forget it.

Oh and this reminds me of how Gmail constantly nags you to get your phone number, too. I'M NOT GIVING IT TO YOU, GOOGLE.

And remember when Youtube wanted you to give out your real name? "Oh, you don't want to? Tell us why!" and you were presented that dialog with 6 choices. It desperately lacked a 7th choice: "MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS, GOOGLE".

This looks benign, but it really raises privacy issues. To picture the one about Gmail: imagine you receive a lovely SMS from your girlfriend, and your mobile operator modified it to insert ads for online dating sites. Or imagine the same with paper letters, even though this tends to be less used.

And beyond what Google does with all those data, there's another big concern, what if their servers get hacked? Remember when the PSN got hacked? Many many credit card numbers and such have been leaked thanks to Sony's incompetence. Imagine the same with Google's servers. All the data they have collected about you gets leaked. Everyone gets to know you love to search for gay furry porn, or some other detail about your life you'd rather keep private.

This is bad. Hell, maybe Google knows more about you than yourself do.

I agree with almost everything you say here, but I do want to point out one thing:

To be fair, getting your phone number is done for a benign reason, which is two-step verification. It helps prevent unauthorized access to your account, as even if someone has your password, they also need a verification message sent to your phone in order to log in.

Which also needs I'll need to do the verification thing each time my ISP gives me a new IP. Or whatever they use to tell whether you're the account owner or a potential hacker.

Even if people having my phone number isn't that severe, I don't want Google to have it.

No, you can have it remember that you verified correctly on your computer.

I like chrome. I use it on my desktop, my laptop, and my cellphone. I like most of its features, the sync between all my devices (bookmarks, history, etc), and the extensions (adblock, chromecast), and not mentioning how fast the browser is. In order to be this fast, it uses up a lot of RAM, but i'm fine with that, I got 16GB on my desktop, and 1GB on my laptop, but since its running ubuntu, it can run chrome perfectly.

No, you can have it remember that you verified correctly on your computer.

Which means that a) it's cookie based, so if you lose your cookies you have to do it again, or b) Gmail communicates with your computer, giving more room for Google to spy on you.

Yes, it's cookie-based, but if you don't want to lose your cookies, just don't clear them.
