I hadn't thought that they'll be making a new installment of this series, but anyway. It looks cool. Here you can discuss anything about this game.

Lame.

Just the fact its still all together in the car is dumb.

What was the problem with the formula the first 7 games?
They work fine.

So yeah, cant say I'm really looking for this one. Another mario party game to ignore :P

I don't really know what to do...

Mario Party 9 was worse than its predecessors, but was still playable and in the end I thought it was worth the money.

Then Mario Party Island Tour came, and oh boy.......I despise it. It's the only 3DS game I've ever bought where I actually fully regret my purchase. I was thinking that they were going to expand on Mario Party 9 but instead they took everything that could have been made wrong and put it into one package.
- Horrendous Stages. Only 1/3 of the boards gave me desire to replay them.
- Ridiculously SHORT stages (tying in with the above)
- No unlockables besides Bowser Jr.
- No 1 vs 3, 2 vs 2, Duel, Battle or Bowser Minigames (leaving only 4-player)
- NO REPLAY VALUE! AT. ALL! (Yeah I don't even think it's an overstatement)
- No Online

That game alone made me lose all hope of Mario Party. If Mario Party 10 sticks with the Mario Party 9 formula then I MIGHT buy it. If not then I most likely won't even care for the game (unless it gets amazing reviews).

I still don't understand why they couldn't just keep the old formula. I understand that having 4 Mario Party games on one console was repetitive and blatant milking (looking at you, GameCube), but that formula was already good. Nintendo should have tried to expand on the classic formula (or change only a few aspects of it), instead of ditching it completely.

Honestly, I think what they should have done was have two gameplay modes :one with traditional boards and gameplay, and one featuring the new, team vs bowser set-up. That way we'd still have the same friend-destroying fun from the earlier games, and for something new, try teamwork to defeat the person with the gamepad. I'll probably still get it though, if only for the minigames, since 9 did have some good ones.

It has 9's formula with the whole Boweser gamepad thing. Personally I liked 9, it was a nice different new thing for the series. I didn't want them to do 9's formula again! The earlier ones were amazing, is that formula copyrighted by Hudson or something? Because Nintendo never mad one like that. Island tour was a disaster...

I'm still looking forward to this game, but they better make this game less luckbase than 9.

Well, the only Mario Party game I own is Mario Party 9, and it's not that bad. The minigames are really fun in my opinion. I think that it's a bit too early to judge this MP game?

Again I though Mario Party 9 was unique and fun, however the old format is much better.

The problem with MP9 is those lame straight courses and even the old formula courses feel odd. But yeah, is way better than MP9.

The worst ones are 9, island tour, and to some extend, the GBA one, since its hardly a party game at all.

At least 9 was fun a little, Island Tour was completely terrible!

Heh, I've never played a Mario party game. Until I was 17, it was just pure chance. Now, I just avoid it for tradition's sake, and my personal identity.

Why is Mario Party 10 a remake with new courses of 9?!?. I thought that's a remake of 1,2,3,4... until 8. But no.
I don't like Mario Party 9.

I personally liked Mario Party 9. It brought cool mini games, and some new features like the cars and bosses which I thought were fun. Island Tour I thought was ok I guess, but I've only played it TWICE since I got it. Mario Party 10 looks to be better than Island Tour and if it is more like 9 I will be very happy. (But if they could get the old formula… it would be so much better.)

All 4 players drive with a car that's boring. I would like play the old variant of Mario Party.

I don't think it is that boring but defiantly not as fun and makes every game more similar. Anyways, it looks like in the Bowser mode in MP10 everybody is working together against the player who is Bowser.

Ok, time to give my 2 cents since I'm like a giant fan of Mario Party. (Favorite one being 6; most hated being 1 and 7, actually. But this isn't really too relevant to this topic anyways.)

The problem with 9's format is that it is too reliant on luck. Yes, obviously a board game will have luck, but with 9's format, it was easy to get screwed over because (almost) every board had some dumb mechanic that would make someone lose 1/2 their mini-stars \. This would be a huge issue at the end of the course. Especially on Bob-Omb Factory and Magma Mine. Also, there would be a bunch of Bowser Spaces at the end, so it's easy to get screwed over by that as well. You could end up being unlucky and get the "lose 1/2 your mini-stars" event or have a "battle for 1/2 mini-stars" event. There was very little control and not a lot of strategy.

There was also an issue with mini-game payouts, because THEY WERE WAY TOO CLOSE. 5/3/2/1 isn't really doing many favors to boost your Mini-Star count. You can get 1st in a mini-game, then last in the next. Let's say a rival got 2nd the 1st mini-game, and first on the next. You'd only be 2 mini-stars behind... Which really isn't hard to overcome.
I also didn't like how the "Battle games" (with Hammer Bro) had a payout of 6/4/2/0. It was basically a regular mini-game, but 1st and 2nd get an extra mini-star, while last gets none, which still doesn't really shake things up.

Many of the Captain Events were also VERY biased. The stuff like the Dice Block Chicken was very biased (how is it a chicken when the non-captains don't decide when to stop >__>) and gets the best path for Mini-Stars (for the events based on getting to the end first for the mini-stars).

Also, I do feel like "bosses" should be able to defeat the players and like all the players should be penalized of Mini-Stars if they do fail. The bosses were kind of silly and pretty easy anyways (minus Bowser Jr. since that one is LITERALLY luck; you cannot dodge or anything).

So basically, 9's format does not reward skill a lot. I'd say like a 4/10 for skill factor, since you still need to be good at mini-games, but the payouts are still pretty close (unless you're playing that type of mini-game where everyone has 1/2 their Mini-Stars on the line cause of Bowser). So, if for example, if you're weak at one type of mini-game, like reflex games, but you're good at platforming mini-games, you can make up the difference. But the luck factor plays a huge role; one unlucky event that makes you lose a bunch of mini-stars, you're not winning.

9 still has pretty awesome mini-games though. If only we could combine those mini-games (minus the luck ones obv) with the classic formula. =P

Although this formula is quite reliant on luck and it causes moments that make you want to rage, I enjoyed it WAY more than some other Mario Parties. I preferred it over 1, 5, 7 and 8, actually. =P

Ok, about Mario Party 10, it looks like Mario Party 9/Wii Party 3.0 so far, but I'm kind of interested in the Bowser Party thing.

This is most likely wishful thinking, but I REALLY, REALLY hope they have both Party modes available (the classic Stars & Coins method and the mini-star one). Also please have a good character roster; I was quite upset they removed Dry Bones, Toadette, Boo and some other characters from being playable after 8. :/

Although I did see this quote, and it makes me wonder:

Enjoy new mini-games in classic Mario Party style with up to 4 players!

I don't think they mean "classic" like the traditional Mario Party we're used to. .__.

Also, WHERE THE HELL IS ONLINE?! It would give this game a LOT more replay value. I get that playing Worldwide can cause ragequits, but I'd think doing mini-games (as in Free Play) with random people is acceptable, and you could also use it to check mini-game records. Meanwhile with friends, you can do boards online (and Nintendo shouldn't be using the "it'd take too long excuse" cause Fortune Street has online) and I'm sure your friends are less likely to rage when they're losing. You can also do mini-games if you want. The pros of online would obviously outshine the cons (which is pretty much just ragequitters lol).
