On the IRC just now, we were talking about what to do with the story. All we've really figured out is that Bowser wants to produce something called "gravigen" (the name is self-explanatory) and that he goes to the edge of the universe. As of yet there has not been any real link or explanation for this or any other part of the story.
However, while derping around on the IRC I stumbled across this: This. tl;dr version: "Astronomers have found that whole clusters of galaxies are moving in convoy towards a single point in the sky. This unexpected motion appears to be separate from the expansion of the universe and the researchers even suggest that a force beyond the visible universe is the culprit. The discovery has been named Dark Flow." Now, this is just a theory and has not been proven. The actual cause could be this Dark Flow idea, it could be the influence of another universe, or this might all be misinterpreted data. But this is Mario so nobody cares. The point is, this is something that makes sense that perfectly links crazy gravity with the edge of the universe. So here's my basic idea: There is mysterious stuff called gravigen at the edge of the universe that causes the universe's expansion and eventual contraction. Bowser goes to the edge of the universe with the intent of harnessing gravigen to control the universe for his evil deeds. And...that's about it. A Mario game doesn't need a super-complex story, just a basic idea of what Bowser is trying to do. As usual, he kidnaps Peach with the hope that she'll rule the universe with him and as usual Mario must pursue the big tortoise and put a stop to his plans. As an added bonus, this gravigen idea gives a reason for any unnatural gravity encountered in the game. My idea would be expand on the size on the Grand World Map in SMG2. Worlds 2, 3, and 4 are placed on the right side of rings.
Posted by MarioWiki SMG2.5's plot and Grand World Map would reveal the rest of those rings. This is not necessarily an extremely huge story. Yeah but that doesn't explain why Bowser goes to the edge of the universe or anything about gravigen, and is kind of an underwhelming setup IMO. Also tying the world map directly into the story feels forced and would require some strange dialogue to explain. ____________________

Hmm. That's pretty neat and convenient.
Instead of gravigen at the edge, how about it being inside every planet. Explains the gravity that shouldn't be there. Wait, Gravigen Generator is all about Bowser extracting it from planets, isn't it...? Let's say he's trying to make a new universe but he's trashing the place in the extraction process. ____________________ Burrow Base design- Text complete. Posted by Agent000 Actually, the world map is simply implied with gc's idea so that there is not a big story about the map. Your plot idea can go with gc's idea, and Bowser obtains gravigen from the galaxies, especially Gravigen Extractor. Edge of The Universe is the center of Bowser's new universe that he is creating. Almost. He's going to the edge of the universe to EXIT the universe and create a new one outside it. The final level is Mario crossing over into Bowser's created universe. ____________________

Given that Bowser will be granted full control of the new universe, then the sole reason Peach was kidnapped was to actually lure Mario into the new realm, in the hopes he could be trapped, and thus granting Bowser a lifetime of vengeance. In case Bowser needs another reason to gather the Power Stars other than getting big, since his priority now is the gravigen, it could be that the Stars' energy can partly counter its effect, which makes it easier to manipulate, at the same time it prevents even Bowser and his minions from being crushed by the massive amount of matter which was gathered. |

I just want to know why we even need a story in the first place. We're making a hack for a Mario game, and a main series one at that. Too much story could turn people away from SMG2.5, I certainly hated when they did it in Super Paper Mario. |

Posted by NWPlayer123 Well just to add, a alternate Mario could work IMO, as an NPC who gives Mario advice like The Chimp, he doesn't have to be SUPER involved, he could just appear a few times just for advice or a chat while Mario launches among the planets through his adventure. |
