Also, we could technically make the Spin Drill work on that. Dreams also sounds nice.

Edit: So imagine a dream-like atmosphere. Sort of like the secret levels that FLUDD gets never taken away (the Bottle) in SMS. Some planets have giant feathers that close up like a flower at the end of a day. When the feathers close up, ground becomes underground. Also, there could be a planet that is open but large pillows form a canopy.

Hm, well IDK how well dreams would work. The name is really weird to get concepts from, and there isn't really a theme established. We should be trying to brainstorm some more ideas to use here.

If I had to be honest, it's actually moreso still life, since it has to do with 2 varying themes and "above and below" planets.

The dream and pillows ideas were just attempts made to keep this galaxy from being a second Spin-Dig and Still-Life. I still think this galaxy should have a unique theme.

Well even so, the first thing I thought of was with the underground part being somewhat of a throwback to the old mario games, but in 3D, and then the part of the planet above it is something different. But I really don't know where we could go from that.

"Throwback to the old Mario games". Super Paper Mario had a throwback in the Bitlands. Plus, we have the yellow elevator platforms.

Well yes, but that was just one level, and I remember someone, I think Agent, was really hoping we could do something like that for this project, but Retro Remix had it rejected, so IDK where else it could fit but here since it's the same concept.

Underground does not have to be dirt and rock. It could also be a bunker, either a concrete one or a house-like one. In fact, should Mushroom Houses (not Tosd Houses) be a theme here? Many Mario Kart tracks, like Mushroom Bridge, have Mushroom Houses.

Another thing is that the underground section could also be like the basement in SM64(DS), but that too is bunker-like.

Edit: The galaxy's description on the old site reads some like "What you do underground affects above ground and vice-versa".

This opens up more possiblities like with switches.

For example: There is a Launch Star high above you. Go inside the planet and hit a timed (blue) Ground Pound Switch. When you go above ground again, a structure has appeared that allows you to reach the Launch Star.

This level's theme is switching between above ground and below ground (or inside and outside) to change things... there are a lot of ideas to work with here.

Well, there was that area of Puzzle Plank where a Launch Star was high off the ground, requiring pillars to be pounded on the other side to make them move up.
Maybe an "unstable ground" section with tons of those kind of columns?

Okay, I think I came up with an idea, I hope it doesn't sound stupid.

Some of Bowser's minions have been tasked with building huge city-like galaxies. The entire galaxy is a construction zone, and the underground section is the also-under construction sewer system (which could make for some fun Warp Pipe Puzzles).

Anyway your main goal is to help those wood dudes (Whittles I think?) because their forest home has been destroyed to make room for the city. So you'll be stomping the workers, destroying machines, and maybe that vine idea from earlier in this thread will fit too.

Of course this would mean the galaxy would need a name change, but I'm not punny enough for that.

Maybe just take out the complex story and make it a futuristic city level with the under over idea

Well yeah, I just meant I like the construction site theme. I don't think it needs a name change as long as we keep the same gameplay mechanic. The difference is an awesome-looking (and fun to model >83) construction site instead of a bunch of bland dirt planets.
