I think some of us wanted the Toad Brigade Captain to take Lubba's place, and Lubba to be a mechanic/engineer in the engine room or something.

I don't perfer the Brigade Captain as Star Ship leader. He's better as a side characters.

Maybe something along the lines of Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64 with lots of simple secret stars and lots of rooms.

I wish, but I don't think that works to well in space.

How about Mario can go into the ship? It has secret stars, but it can't be as big.

That would be cool and maybe the different worlds would be accessible through floating island type things that are separated from the main spawn part of the hub. Also, micro planets or bridges could interconnect them.

As of now, accessing worlds in the hub area is done through the Grand World Map. Maybe someone can make it like in 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy 1, but I don't know about that.

Also, it has been suggested that planets, floating islands, whatever etc. be just areas to explore and have the power-ups to use for fun and bonuses.

I once suggested having a house-type hub that is also city-like, but I am not sure how that concept is going.

Size would be a problem. It can't be super huge.

I think it'd be pretty cool if you got to unlock more and more of the hub. Like in SMG1, the back parts are darkened before you beat the earlier domes, this hub could have different planets be darkened until you beat a certain world or level, and they could be made inaccessible by requiring a cloud flower, or yoshi, or a blimp berry, or redstar, etc. so you can't go there until you beat a certain world and get different power ups.

I really think the hub should be big enough to be considered "explorable" as that was one of the few things that many people liked about SMG1 over SMG2.

And the music changes every time you get an area.

Here's some random idea for a hub I had one afternoon. Sorry about the image quality.

I must say, nice job on the drawing. But is a completely spherical and super complicated (when it doesn't need to be) hub necessary? It looks like it's built more like a planet in one of the galaxies rather than a hub. Think less like Starship Mario and more like the Comet Observatory. I'm not asking for a hub as large and expansive as Delfino Plaza, but at least make it less...round.

Well, the Starship Mario was spherical, just shaped as Mario's head. It has multiple protrusions. For example, the blue and gray part on the right of the planet is supposed to be raised off the ground. The angle makes it look a bit wonky.

I think you're kind of missing the fact that I said to NOT think Starship Mario. I know this is a hack for Super Mario Galaxy 2, but that most certainly doesn't mean that we can't take inspiration from the original. This design just seems kind of bland, honestly. Maybe try something that's not out in space? A grounded hub world is not entirely out of the question.

A grounded hub world IS pretty out of the question. Remember, this thing has to be a model capable of moving around the world map. It's Super Mario Galaxy. Y'know, space.

Keep in mind that this isn't a design. It's a super-rough, open-for-interpretation concept artwork.

No it doesn't. Like one of our original ideas was - Peach's Castle transforming into a space ship. It can easily be a distinct portion that detatches to travel. Let's not limit ourselves because of pointless claims.

Oh yeah, kind of forgot about the world map. I just got so used to it that I sorta forgot that it's something that we have to work with. Just looking at it though, it doesn't seem like something that wouldn't believably fly through space. Seeing a giant ball zoom across the cosmos would look pretty ridiculous. But those are just my thoughts, I'll wait to see the feedback of others.

What would the story for that be? The toads of Peach's Castle have been secretly developing technology to allow the castle to fly through space? I'm not saying that the Super Mario Galaxy games have never had ridiculous concepts, but the idea itself sounds pretty out there. And before you go on a tangent saying "you're limiting our creative freedom!", I just don't feel like a flying Peach's Castle sounds like something that I would ever actually see in a Mario game.
