I haven't been motivated to hack Galaxy 2 in a long time.

Same here. It's true that this year I've worked on a couple things related to SMG2 hacking (a custom level, MKDD model importing). However, I haven't felt the same sense of excitement and accomplishment while doing so. Furthermore, I was planning to make more stuff during this summer but looks like I won't, and it's not because I'm short of time: It's just that I don't feel like hacking right now.

good news, I just remembered how to texture 10x better and faster. That might help us :)

I'm back! I have regained my motivation and have officially come back.

As always, the only things I can do are give ideas, feedback, and text level designs. But, I will see what I can do to help the project. Be warned that I will not be as active as before but I will still try to be here from time to time.

I would be going crazy hacking and making levels in Whitehole if I could use it. I use a Mac so I am not able to use Whitehole, as it is an .exe file, which only runs on Windows. If you ask, "Why don't you get a Windows computer then?" Well, I can't as MOST of my devices that are not related Gaming all are Apple products.(such as my phone,Ipod, router, and internet connection) I have a lot of free time on the weekends, so I may go into replacing one of the cancelled galaxies. That is why i haven't done much on the hacking side of this website. Bam.

Have you considered opening the .jar file?

WhiteHole was programmed in Java, it's a multi-platform program.

WOW, WAS THAT POST VERY STUPID????????????????????????????????

Anyways, right now we're just going to try to redo the galaxy names and themes for now.

This is about the project, not about making whitehole to work. Please stay on topic :>

Wow. IS IT REALLY THAT EASY!!!!!!!

OH MY GOSH YES IT IS!!!!!!

The Executable really serves no purpose, as far as I know. Windows can open execute the jar on it's own, provided you have the proper software installed onto your system.

I'm not sure how answering a question, which has to do with topic in a way (A member who can edit levels is more likely to reduce the time the project takes than one who can't!), is straying offtopic, provided I don't expound on it further in a way that's unnecessary. (Three pages later we're talking about why all Bloopers don't use routes).

I'll contribute, I guess:
I agree that the project is too huge to finish any time soon. Choose a level, make it your absolute focus, and don't move on until it's 100% done, and you might actually get somewhere closer to the finish line, and dare I say, closer to doing everything you have planned. Even better, try making levels in a certain order (First > Last), you never know when something in an earlier level will effect something in a later one. Nobody will be impressed with 27.85% finished Galaxies, would they?

This. It has been brought up on the IRC several times, the most recently by FnarGod. Also yeah, that would really help us. We're not getting anything done by being scattered and all working on seperate galaxies :P

Well, which level would you suggest we concentrate on? ATM I would suggest Coastline Cavern because we have so much progress on it. We can go down the list, completing galaxies that have models and designs first before we start worrying about the less well designed ones.

We already decided Coastline and Sky High :P

Sky High? Hmm. How far is it in the creation process?

What do you think? It's one planet in, the one you constantly saw on the IRC and I posted on the forum, and I need to texture the rest since I know glem's not gonna work on it any time soon xD

I think there are 2 more large planets I still have to model for Star 1.

EDIT: Never mind, all the Star 1 planets are done!

Perhaps I'm not qualified to comment on any of this, but my opinion of all this? I think the SMG hacking community here is missing something. I think it is missing this:

[/img]

That's the custom stages sub-forum of the Smash hacking community kc-mm.com. It's a forum where people can show off the custom stages they've made whatever they may be. There are other sub-forums for characters and movesets, but I'd like to draw your attention to the guy named Mewtwo2000 here. He's one of the lead stage developers for one of Smash's biggest mod projects - Project M. But he doesn't just work for Project M. He makes a ton of other stages and character models just because he wants to be able to show them off. The reason for his work isn't because he wants to advance Project M, but more that he likes making those models and likes to show them to people - even if they aren't used in some big project.

Those sub-forums are more than just a place for people to show off. It's a place for people to practice. More importantly, it's a place for people to motivate both themselves and others. It's a place where even hackers like me can become motivated just by seeing what people are capable of.

Observing things as they are, this kind of thing does not exist in Kuribo - in fact, it is somewhat discouraged. A few months ago StarLight made a comment regarding the lack of tutorials for him when it comes to using Maya to make stages. Me - being a bit over critical - told him that he should try to make his own attempts at stage creation instead of expecting there to be a tutorial telling him how to do it. To his credit, he did just that. However when he tried to show off his progress, the first response he recieved was: "Shouldn't really need a thread."

It is here where I think the problem is. Efforts like Starlight's should absolutely need a thread. Those kinds of threads are training grounds, they are motivators, and they are places that hold the potential to attract new members to the community. I'm not really an expert at communities, but at places like kc-mm, there is always some kind of activity and it's not just the big projects either. Everyday there is always some new blood willing to give modelling or moveset creation a shot because they have a place that they can immediately go to show it off and be appreciated.

I wouldn't say that this would fix all of the community's current problems, but surely it wouldn't hurt to have a place where people can take pride in their own work?

I wholly agree. This would also dovetail nicely with our new galaxy policy for the project.
