Post your level designs and ideas for Misty Peaks Galaxy here. This is an ice level based off of mountains and ice.

Here are some previous ideas for this galaxy.

Astroluma - To have metallic aspects occasionally in the galaxy and Barron Burr potentially

NWPlayer123 - to have a large ice slide similar to Slipsand Galaxy, that you slide down on from the top of a mountain.

Glem3 - To have a chomps with snowball models over them to have snowballs on the mountain, and the Rhomps with piles of snow.

gc - to have the slide go to a new area after climbing a large mountain (could be used after a mini boss battle).

MoreCowbell - Have parts of the level resemble a ski resort

Well these are all good concepts, someone should be able to make an awesome design out of all of these.

Wasn't NWPlayer123 working on this galaxy?

I'm just observing and OKing ideas, basically leading it. I'm not actually designing it, though I might suggest some ideas.

Why not a Ice Cave for a secret star somewhere here? It could be well hidden and it can resemble an ice cave, with frozen stuff inside. (Crystal Cages can be used A TON in this cave)

(This can be 2D)
Just an idea.

Well, why not a section of the actual climbing being an ascent up a cavern inside the mountain, and emerging considerably farther up?

It would be a nice touch to have a small slightly grassy/rocky area with a slowly increasing slope with jutting-out rocks and assorted enemies, like the Slimy Springs end or the Garden (observatory), or the Baron Brr mountain without the ice theme, but with lots of rocks. Then a Launch Star up to a middle section with a high slope, without grass, only rock. Then into the cave, starting with just darkness, water, Swoopers, and rock, but with ice slowly appearing the higher he goes. Then an icy exit near the top, with ice and rock platforming. Finally, with the Star at the summit plateau.
Each section should be relatively short to compensate for the possible difficulty.

Eh. It's supposed to be more a mountain theme than an ice theme.

There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, it's usually an oncoming express train.

Slow and steady gets you trampled by the other guys.

I was actually thinking of bringing back the Yoshi's Island mountain hill things. Also, it's not just about climbing the actual hills, it's also about actually getting to them (possibly through a blizzard)

Half (or more) of the level should be a pure mountain theme without an ice theme. That hasn't been done before. Everybody thinks of ice when a mountain is mentioned. I blame Baron Brr.

Yoshi's Island thingies? You mean the background or some enemies or hills?

Those decorative hills, the tall rounded ones.

Yeah, the only problem is effects. Once we do figure out them and be able to control and regulate them, then we could do so much. Snow in the air, SNOW ON THE GROUND, possibly some wind, IDK, whatever you can think of. Of course this is all just a made up dream until that DOES happen, but I reckon it'll do the trick

It should also have a nice fog effect, since you're so high in the sky

Eh, I guess it kinda depends. Like, above, gc's talking about the mountain part of a mountain, which isn't the highest part where all the ice and snow is. I guess I could see some clouds though.

I meant ascending the mountain, with the ice and fog factor going steadily up after the middle point. Launch Stars, of course.
Like, first a gentle grassy slope, then a rockier steeper slope, then a cave, with ice appearing halfway into it, then a section with ice platforming (i.e. the summit). Not too long for each one, of course.

Agent mentioned something along the lines of snowboarding... If we used my ski lodge theme idea, one of the stars could be climbing the main mountain's summit and snowboarding down. Of course, I don't know how reasonable this idea is, with animations and stuff.

NWPlayer123
Posted on 01-06-13 03:07 AM Link | #3823
Yeah, I still like the ski lodge idea a lot. Once we figure out how to make new objects that are imported move using a path, then we could even ride UP to the top of the lift. In theory there are object definitions for moving objects, but they have never been proven to work. Also, I agree the snowboarding would be amazing, but really difficult to pull off.

Well, to increase length and difficulty maybe the lifts would act merely as decoration. Without the daring ascent, the mission would be quite short, and less challenging.

Hmm, yeah, this is world 2 so it shouldn't be too hard. I keep forgetting what worlds these are actually in xD

While it is W2, the level still needs to have some length.
Also, I think for the snowboarding/slide or whatever it turns out to be, a steep slope should run down the mountain, into a snowy forest with lots of trees. (All while sliding at high speeds)

NWPlayer123
Posted on 01-06-13 03:24 AM Link | #3833
yeah, and we should make it fast paced if possible, for the added effect of that extra thrill

Definately.... but what would be the "punishment" for hitting a tree? Just a bump?
