I cant find OS X compelling to the eye and good user-interface-wise. Windows 7 was great, and Windows 8 has its flaws, many people might hate it because of them, but when you get used to them, its fine, and the performance is much better, its quicker and faster (THEY ARE NOT SYNONYMS)

It wouldn't let me upgrade but gave no reason why so I had to do a DVD install which failed the first time getting stuck in a boot loop. My touch pad now doesn't work properly even though it was fine before and works fine in Linux. My HDMI also now has problems - it won't let me duplicate screens anymore and sometimes just crashes for no reason requiring a reboot. It didn't work properly with one of my USB3 ports and overall I see no improvement over 7. I haven't downgraded because it'd be too much hassle and I use OpenSUSE most of the time.

Weird. I dont have any of those problems. My HDMI works, touchpad works, and all usb work. Make sure you have the drivers for all those.
AND if that doesnt help, maybe your laptop's motherboard doesnt support windows 8.

Well, you have a year. So should I really install Windows 7 alongside 8? Are the differences that severe? Because I can run multiple OSs at the same time.

I did update all of my drivers before installing and after. It's quite a recent laptop so it should work and the manufacturer has released Windows 8 drivers for it.

I'd have to say Windows 8's interface is pretty great...if you ran it on a tablet, that is.

I don't think using Metro as it is now on a regular dkesktop/laptop was a good idea. The gestures for switching windows and closing applications really just don't work with a mouse and keyboard, and I'd have to say using two desktops (Windows' regular desktop and the Metro interface) is...kinda odd.


I'll stick to Linux.
