Or almost. Dolphin will still require an ISO because it doesn't take Riivolution patches. We'll work on it though.

SMGExtractor is a simple program that runs on your Wii, and dumps files from your SMG1 or SMG2 disc. You can choose to dump all the disc's files, or just the minimum required to hack SMG levels.


Requirements
* a homebrew-enabled Wii
* a SMG1 or SMG2 disc (if you don't have that, you're practicing SMG hacking illegally, and we don't support it)
* a storage medium (SD card or USB drive), with a FAT filesystem and enough space to hold the files you want (count ~300MB for the minimum and ~1.5GB for all the files)


How to proceed
Download SMGExtractor.

If you're using Homebrew Channel, just extract the apps folder to the root of your SD card (or whatever you use to load homebrews).
Otherwise, find boot.dol and put it in an appropriate place. The two other files are irrelevant then.

Turn your Wii on and launch SMGExtractor. Insert your disc and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once the dumping process has started, find something else to do in the meantime, as the process takes long to complete.

Once it's done, you can turn your Wii off and all. You'll find a SMGFiles folder at the root of your storage medium, containing all the files you chose to dump. Congratulations, you can now start hacking SMG legally.

Troubleshooting

* When I start dumping, I get 'Failed to mount the disc' or a freeze
If you're using the HBC, your version is too old. Update to the latest version.
Otherwise, stop using that lame homebrew loader you're using.

* When I launch SMGExtractor, I get 'DI_Init failed'
Your IOSes are probably too old or something. You can update to the latest System Menu and then install HBC via LetterBomb.

Also I figured out that you still need an ISO to run SMG on Dolphin, no matter what. Or perhaps, as I said on IRC, it is possible to make the game run with only the .dol and the data files. What resources does the game access on the disk anyway, aside from the files on its data partition?

No. Wii discs have their sectors laid out differently from standard DVDs, so no PC DVD drives are able to read them properly.

A few drives can be used to read them (at terrible speeds) via debug commands and other hacking, though.

And... did you even read the first post? It says you can use a SD card or an USB storage device.
