Your text is really hard to read because your bright purple doesn't contrast well with the light-colored background that is only slightly offset by the transparent black box. I suggest you increase the opaqueness of that box.

Better now?

It's better, but I think it could still be a smidge darker.

bump;
just gave my layout a much-needed pallet change. nothing special, just some color swaps, but the colors look much better and are updated to match my current pfp i've had for months now.

The stripe pattern dosn't look very good imo. Esp with the dark themes. And a stripe pattern with a that big contrast makes your eyes hurt a bit imo :P

Also your signature exceeds the maximum of 100 pixels by a large margin. The image alone breaks the maximum. Please fix that.

I'm afraid the security filter won't let you do so.

not that I would accept it, either.

fixed, thanks for the notice. (i was wondering if it was too big but no one said anything... until now, of course.)

*turns brightness from 0% to 100%*
...oh... yeah, THAT might be a problem...

edit: fixed it so my layout is generally brighter all around

I don't like very much the colors in your pattern RealHeroicGamer. Maybe some classic ones would be better.

I still want to do a 3D layout.
Even one with CSS3D using three.js ?

No. Post layouts have to be lightweight and without any js.

And fancypants 3d stuff distracts from post contents which is exactly the opposite of what a post layout should do.

I first thought you were joking but at this point I'm wondering.

whatever. the security filter just disallows it, that's all.

well I were actually joking. It would just be a waste of time anyway for me to make a 3D layout, I have better to do.

here we go! new layout for the first time since probably 2014 or so. <_<

this one's less dry than my last one, yet still simple enough. probably going to change that background though.

You could have as well bumped the old thread. Bumps are fine if they bring in new content.
Here's my layout.

Stretch so you can admire the space background:
D
A
T

S
T
R
E
T
C
H

T
H
O

TODO:
• Make my main div transparent so you see the space texture through it;
Done, as you can see. Transparency 70%.
• Make links able to be formatted like any normal text, so I can customize the colour of them (useful for linking to profiles on other boards, using the username colour of their profile on that board and for keeping the "X" button on my post layout the same colour, but making it a link that logs the user out). Would also need to figure out then how to make followed links not change colour;
Thanks Thierry, your mini-tutorial is really informative! I will definitely look for a site where I can learn CSS. Shouldn't be too hard once I get the drill.
• Figure out how to change quote layouts: I want to remove "Posted by" in my layout and have an image, about 50×50, of a double quotation mark in place of it;
• Figure out how to edit the layout of spoilers: I want to remove the "(Click to reveal)" text and maybe do other shito;
• For the 'toolbar' in my layout: figure out how to align text left and right on the same line, so I can have the buttons in the same place and have some text on the left of it;
• Make it so that my sig is distinguishable from my post div.
Done. Before Thierry posted, I already attempted to make my sig differ from the main post div, but my only idea was a green border. It looked too ugloo combined with the main div's red, so I ditched it. Then I came with the idea of a metallic-looking sig div, which still fits with my layout's sci-fi-y theme and also allowed me to use the ‹hr›s I use as my divs' skeleton, so that all divs are the same width, in a 1337 way, by making them function like the highlight and shadow of the metal.
EDIT: If you see my layout broken at any time, it's only because I'm changing it and improving it, and stuff like tags that I accidentally left opened or changing class names may temporarily break my layout.

quick criticism, in the above post there's nothing to differentiate the post content and the signature. they're both just bubbles of text, so you can only infer what's what.
you might want to do something to make your signature look like an element that's optional to read, rather than any important part of your post.

there are a few common ways to achieve that:
- you can add a unique, clear separator between the post and signature that occurs only once per post
- you can wrap the signature text with an effect overall unique to itself (such as italics covering it all, half opacity, smaller size, or a combo of any of these)

btw in order to do any of the things you listed above, you'll have to learn to use internal styles rather than inline styles.
internal styles use <style> tags, whereas inline styles go <div style="color:blue;">this text would be blue</div> which's what you've been using til now.

Styles like the ones I used right above go like this:
<style>
.some_name {
font-family: monospace;
font-size: 125%;
color: fuchsia;
background: #11000;
}
</style>

Which then gets applied to the element specified, which in this case is the class "some_name". This will affect ALL elements with this class, which means you don't have to rewrite it for every single element. You can target any element using this (and thusly need to do so in moderation) meaning you can style hotlink tags within your posts, like so:

<style>
.some_other_name {
color: #552ce6;
border: 1px dashed white;
padding: 5px;
}
.some_other_name a {
color: red!important;
}
</style>
<div class="some_other_name">let's pretend this box is my layout
<a href="https://www.google.com/">and this is a hotlink tag within my layout</a></div>

let's pretend this box is my layout
and this is a hotlink tag within my layout

Here the a tag is hotlink, which is contained within the element of the class some_other_name.

I recommend you go and learn more about CSS and then experiment with this kind of stuff on your own. This is a whole can of worms so what I've written here isn't really sufficient to do all that much. notably, hotlinks have several different states (regular, hovered, currently being clicked, previously visited, etc) which all can and should be customized accordingly. google is your friend.
