I think it'd be fun if we each create our lists of our TOP 9 GAMES OF ALL TIME, and then idk we could all try each others favourite games lol.

Post your games!

For me it'd probably be:

-Bioshock Infinite
-Deus Ex Human Revolution
-LittleBigPlanet 2
-echochrome
-Super Mario Odyssey
-Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
-Crash Twinsanity
-Ratchet Gladiator
-Team Fortress 2

It's hard for me to pinpoint my favorite games of all time but if I go by genre I can always try.

2D platformer: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
3D platformer: A Hat in Time
Adventure/Open world: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
RPG: Persona 5
Visual novel: CLANNAD
EDIT: wait didn't see the top 9 part so I'll add four more games, here goes:
Star Revenge 3.5: Vacation of Cursed Dreams
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
The Stanley Parable
Super Mario Bros. X

I've hardly played any games that aren't AAA Nintendo games so uh

I'll just say all of the 3D Mario platformers

Miitopia and Shovel Knight are pretty great too

I've never heard of CLANNAD or Star Revenge, so I'll check them out. I've been reccomended Hat In Time a few times so it's definitely on my list also.

DKC Tropical Freeze I think is probably undisputably the best 2D platformer ever made, the only reason LBP2 is on my list instead is because of the impact that game had on ME personally, it really made interested in the idea of making my own games, which I do ocassionally now lol.

haha stanley parable is also sick, played that years ago, maybe like christmas 2014 or 15?

On second thought, I'd probably replace Star Revenge 3.5 with Super Mario Galaxy. Star Revenge 3.5's probably my favorite SM64 hack and I wanted something to represent SM64 hacks since I've played a ton of them though.

I used to be Nintendo-only too. Back in late elemetary school and middle school I was sometimes mocked for playing Mario games, since other kids perceived them as being "baby" games. This might have caused others to stop playing them, but for some reason I thought I had to stick to my guns and keep playing only Nintendo games. It took me a long time to realize that maybe games didn't have to be on a Nintendo console to be good. I might not have admitted it back then, but I definitely looked down on the other kids because they played what I thought were "mindless shooters".

People were p mean to me when I was younger too for playing "baby games". Eventually you get to the age where no one really cares about that stuff anymore, and as long as you're sound, and you don't make your hobby your personality, people will probably end up even liking you lol.

I always looked down on Call Of Duty and its kin too, which is pretty funny to me now, considering how many first person shooters I play, seriously I love this genre so much.

Not really, Nintendo does make really good games. And I've never been interested in games like the first-person shooters, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on a lot.

Maybe one day I'll try out a few more indie games though

First person shooters are only the very tip of the iceberg of non-nintendo games, you know?

But some first-person shooters let you play as Mario characters if you allow modding.

The last really good Nintendo game I think was 4 years ago, they're output since 2018 has been p abysmal, considering most big third party games don't go to switch either.

There is a WORLD of games outside Nintendo that aren't shooters. Hell even look at my 9 favourite games, only one of them is Nintendo, and only two of them are shooters, and even then that's only because I really like FPS games.

If I had to recommend a non-Nintendo game to you to start, it'd be Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it's an utterly fantastic stealth/RPG, and it even has a p fucking stellar Wii U port if you wanna play it on that. Or don't even play it all, you have so much choice lol.

Some people find the fact that they'll never play every good game almost defeating, but I think it's great, you'll never run out of great video games to play.

I know there's multiple genres that aren't shooters, but honestly? I'm content with what I know and have. I find the Nintendo games fun, so I don't see too much of a reason to go away from them you know?

That's all fine, Nintendo is fun too, but why not try some other games? It's fun to out of your comfort zone, especially when you end up enjoying it.

there hasn't been a lot of non-Nintendo or non-indie games that i've enjoyed. i haven't found the same fun in a single original Xbox or PlayStation IP, except for Spyro the Dragon and the first Sly Cooper game, but those are really old now. the only sports games i like are stuff like Wii Sports. i don't blame them for not wanting to, but even i can definitely enjoy a lot of indie games. Celeste, A Hat in Time, A Short Hike, etc. not to mention Undertale and Deltarune. all fantastic games that hold their own charm, not unlike Nintendo's. as someone who also pretty much exclusively plays Nintendo, i'd still recommend stepping outside that comfort zone once or twice every now and then.

Nah Sony's first party line-up is pretty weak, I have 15 platinums on PSN and only one of them is a Sony game, being Sly Raccoon. I think Uncharted is pretty fun but I really dislike TLOU, and I haven't played Horizion or Days Gone yet. I play on PS4 just because I like the controller, and the system interface, and you get a good mix of western and Japaneese games. Also second hand PS4 games are WORTHLESS, which is great.

The only modern Sony IP I like is Ratchet, but even then, 2016 was an awful game.

Nintendo's the only one of the three that does first party somewhat right. The others have better third party support to make up for it though.

S-Sly Raccoon???? are you just calling it that or is the game named differently in other regions?

i think Nintendo's the only one with a good first party line-up. again, PlayStation had some good games a long time ago (Spyro and Sly Cooper) but i don't like any others, and i've never liked anything Xbox put out. so like, i totally understand them wanting to only stick with Nintendo.

Xbox has like no exclusives, I don't get why people get use it. When I asked my friends, all of them said it was because "all my friends had it". Sony has good third party support though, so it doesn't really matter that their first party sucks.

haha lol, i always call the first game Sly Raccoon because thats what it was called here in Europe. I'm pretty sure the fourth game, Thieves in Time adopted the American "Sly Cooper" name though. Also I think Sly Raccoon sounds cooler to be honest.

Xbox is fine honestly. I have a friend who plays on Xbox One and is going to get a Series X at some point, and he uses it for the same reasons I use a PS4 (and hopefully eventually a PS5 lol), he likes the system interface, it has Game Pass, he likes the controller, and the odd first party game too (he's a big Halo fan). Luckily with cross-play becoming more common, it'll all be down to a matter of preference. I've played Minecraft games with some people on their laptops, PCs, Switches, Xboxes, and their phones, and let me tell you its the fucking future.

While i'm on that thought, the fact that crossplay is a "new" thing always frustrated me. It's pretty well known at this point that its not hard to implement, Fortnite literally had a "bug" once that enabled crossplay for a day before crossplay was added properly to the game. No joke, Quake 3 Arena had crossplay between the Windows, Mac, and Dreamcast versions of the game in 1999, it's honestly sad that it's taken this long.

But hey, at least we have it now, alls well that ends well.

On that note, I think Sonic Adventure is easily my favourite game of all time. Could be for nostalgic reasons, and also the fact the music is pretty much entirely the style of music I'm into (post-grunge/dream-techno)... but I also love the way you get to see each player's story from each others' perspectives. People who say it's aged poorly I don't really understand unless their only point of reference happens to be the GameCube revision or any other version released after the original game, which just happens to be one of the worst re-releases ever made of a game. (The site I linked contains lots of technical info, comparison pics/videos, etc of how SA1 was degraded over each revision/rerelease).

Also, I do feel like Nintendo players have (from what I have personally experienced) generally a habit of lacking exploration outside their own interest bubbles when it comes to games - at the most, they'll usually go to Sega or as far as 'anime' style games on other platforms (e.g. Persona, a PS exclusive) that would likely do well on Nintendo platforms/in the Japanese domestic market, but very poorly outside a specific niche in the US; said niche of which was nonexistent in Europe until well into the 2000s, due to games considered 'too Japanese' being left unreleased in PAL regions - if it weren't for the Internet becoming mainstream, European JRPG releases would probably still be virtually nonexistent and games would still be released months after the US ones with little to no reason to do so.

(The one country that does take fairly warmly to things popular on the American internet (anime culture, Nintendo, etc.) in Europe is France. Also Germany, to some extent, as well as Russia. Everywhere else, particularly the UK and some of the ex-Soviet/Yugoslav countries, there's virtually no interest outside a few specific regions of the respective countries in question.)
