Posted by poudink Time to update my opinions or something. Nestopia: Pretty amazing NES emulator. No complaints here. Great accuracy, many features. Snes9x: Accurate SNES emulator, but not the most accurate. I prefer using Higan or bSNES, but when it comes to porting SNES emulators to consoles, SNES9x is king. VisualBoyAdvance: Decent GBA emulator, but hopelessly outmatched by its multiple forks like VBA-M and newer emulators like mGBA. Mupen64Plus: Probably still the best N64 emulator. Or maybe ParaLLEl is. I'm a bit out of the loop. Point is, it's better than the super accurate but also super barebones Cen64 or the nagware Project64. Dolphin: Best Gamecube and Wii emulator, really no contest there. It's been in active developement for very long and no other Gamecube emulator has gotten close to catching up. As for other Wii emulators, well, I haven't seen any. Dolwin: As I said, can't compete with Dolphin. Citra: This one has progressed a lot since the first time I used it. It can now play most of the 3DS's library quite well and at full speed on an average computer. Still have a few issues with it, but it's become a pretty good emulator. DeSmuME: I mostly stopped using DeSmuME due to how much melonDS has progressed since my initial post. Still keep it around for its few exclusive features that melonDS still doesn't have, though. Cemu: Another emulator that has evolved quite a bit since the last time I used it. I was mind blown when I tried playing Breath of the Wild on my mediocre laptop a few months ago and the game actually ran nearly full speed. The framerate was slightly lower than on console but thanks to the game having dynamic framerate it didn't end up being much of an issue. It's biggest drawback is that it's closed source, but it's unfortunately the only Wii U emulator around with decent compatibility. Decaf showed a lot of promise, but developement on it seems to have grinded to a halt. I still hope somebody will pick it back up someday, though. Project64: NAGWARE BlargSNES: Opinion hasn't changed much here. SNES9x works better now. melonDS: This one's evolved a lot. It's much faster, much more accurate and has a lot more of the basic features you'd expect out of an emulator like savestates and AR codes. It even has a few things DeSmuME lacks like DSi and wifi emulation. It still has a lot of room to improve, but it's become a great DS emulator. I originally chose Dolphin as my favorite emulator. Honestly, I haven't really taken the time to question what the best emulator is in a long time. It's hard to compare emulators that emulate entirely different systems, and while Dolphin may be the best emulator in terms of how much work was put into making it into what it is today, it's obviously not as accurate as something like Nestopia when it comes to emulation its respective systems. I'll keep Dolphin as my pick though, for now. ____________________ Nothing to say, so jadnjkfmnjamnfjkldnajfnjkanfjdksan jsdnvj m. |
