Alright guys, I've really been jumping all over the place lately, but I've decided to restart my old trashed design for this galaxy. Since it hurts typing with my right arm, I'm going to skip the long spiel today.

Digital Circuit Galaxy

Star 1: The Electronic Topmen Invasion

Background: Digital Circuit focuses on technology. There will be tons of electronic devices and yes, the topmen are back. In star one, Mario will face the topmen on multiple planets made up of a variety of devices. In star 2, Mario will venture into cyberspace and use the bulb berry to reveal paths.

Here's a drawing of planet 1 in star 1:

Mario flies into the galaxy and is immediately thrown into the action. He lands on the elevator from Rolling Masterpiece, retextured and much taller than before (I asked, MrRean said we could do this). At the top are two spawn areas. One spawns red topmen while other spawns yellow. Mario must stay on the elevator without being bumped off the edge. This should take about 30 seconds. At the top, Mario will see three wii remotes rotating. He must stand on one and go around until he reaches the computer mouse. The mouse moves back and forth to the laptop. Mario gets on the mouse and rides across. The next section will focus on using high jumps combined with wall jumps. A toad will be there reminding him how to do it. He does this to get up the laptop screen and lands on a rotating CD with a moving sentry beam floating in the middle. Then he can do a high wall jump to get up the flashdrive. On the flashdrive will be 2 topmen trying to bump Mario off the side. On the metal tip is a 1 up which can be reached by another high wall jump. Next to the flashdrive is a TV remote, which is a retextured rotating bridge from Throwback (the one that stops halfway) He then reaches a path of thin wires lined up so they can be walked on. However, chomps roll down the path, so Mario must high jump over them. Once he gets past there he reaches a plug. He wall jumps the prongs and gets to the launch star.

That's it for now, feedback is appreciated.

Ok, I know that this is suppose to be centered around all sorts of computers, but it feels kinda all over the place. The wiimotes don't need to be there just because this is a SMG2 hack :P. Also, Mario should know how to wall-jump by now.

It's a high jump combined with a wall jump, and I don't see the problem wii motes. Some people wanted a full wii in here :P

And this is electronic devices in general. A full level of computers is boring

Also, what the heck is a high jump? Are you talking about a backflip? a triple jump?

A backflip

It kinda suffers from the same problem as your ideas for Fast Food -- it's just a bunch of tiny stuff (in this case, electronics) lined up to form a path. Try having a large planet that Mario spends more time on, rather than just walks across in 3 seconds.

This planet should take over a minute :P

And things being lined up is kinda what Mario is .-.

Eh. But there is actual STUFF to do with those other planets, which distracts the player. :P

Also, the designer should decide on an actual theme from either cyberspace, electric components (i.e. motherboards, wire etc.) or electric products (i.e. Wii, computers etc.). :/
I think a random combination of (rather small) computers, plugs and stuff is just weird.

IMO a cyberspace level woould be better, but whatever.

I made a quick sketch of a few of the ideas from this thread. WARNING: Shit drawings ahead!

Inside the monitor
Mario would start on the bottom left hand corner and work his way round on platforms such as circuit boards, computer screens, a Wii, a Wii remote and an NES.
The speaker in the top middle would be a re-textured bouncing drum.
The pipe on top of the monitor on the right would take you inside a monitor, where you would find one of those puzzels where you walk on the wall and collect all the notes.
The keyboard would have switches on the letters m, a, r, i and o. and if all were pressed a launch star would appear to take you to the next part.

I like the first drawing, though it suffers the same problem as the original design- Too linear.

Here's a kind of weird idea I want to run by you guys:

There's a large montitor with a mouse in front of it. On the screen is a picture of a launch star with the cursor over it. The player realizes they need to click it to continue. You ground pound the mouse clicker and a launch star appears. Just a cool filler planet

Tahcryon

Wouldn't the 'click' look really awkward?

What do you mean? You just ground pound :P

Tahcryon
Posted on 07-16-13 02:45 PM Link | #28169
So you just randomly ground pound and nothing except the launch star spawning happens? No movements on the mouse? Ok..

Maybe the mouse could make s really slow but noticeable clocking animation?

And btw I like the idea, but only if it will be done right.

Yeah it was just a 5 minute scribble just to show off some of the gimmicks. Not a final layout. I'll make a mock-up level tomorrow.

Can we make it so Mario has to ground pound the keys "M-A-R-I-O" on the keyboard to move on? We could just replace ground pound switches with keys.

The problem with that you'd need something directly telling mario to do that
The mouse idea is more obvious
