Hey guys, Hp9 here, and now that I'm finally done with school, I'm back in business for designs. For now Sunken Satellite is on hold because I'm at a block at the moment for the 2D section (go give ideas if you have any). Therefore I've decided to finally take a crack at a galaxy I've had my eye on for months. I'm kind of surprised, yet pleased that it hasn't been done yet.

Anyway, I'm going to be doing this a bit differently than usual. Instead of creating a whole design at once and having it either liked or torn apart, I'm going to be more efficient and build the design with your support. I will be updating this post with art to see what you guys think. For example, I'll make a planet, get feedback, make some edits, and continue this until it's mostly agreed on. Then I can move to another planet. I won't be doing the planets in any particular order, just really what comes to my head. In other words, you are pretty much seeing the progress that would normally take place offline. This means you can help out easily. Hopefully this post will eventually turn into a full fledged design that we can prepare for approval. If this system is successful then I'll probably use it from now on. You can expect a lot of designs from me this summer, so make sure to stay updated. Now for the design...

Mechanical Meadows Galaxy

Star 1: A Case of Spring Fever

Background info: This galaxy is an artificial world created by the gearmos (This won't be directly stated unless we do the galaxy description idea for the world map. However, there will be gearmos here) designed to resemble a natural environment. Almost everything will be made out of metal. There will be metal grass, metal trees, metal flowers, mushrooms, etc.

The grass will look like this but green:

The trees will be metal sheets bolted together and colored green as well. The flowers will be large and have a metallic texture.

This star will begin with 2 or 3 small planets of platforming action, then get to the harder second half of the level which utilizes spring Mario

Okay, so I trashed my design after realizing how sub par the visuals were. However, I've just spent an hour remaking the planet, and I think it's quite improved. I took some ideas from a potential other planet and thrown them into this one to maximize quality (I'll have to think of some new ideas for the others xP)

I've also made this planet 1 now. You should be able to understand from reading labels, so I won't have a wall of text like last time. So, without further ado, here is Planet 1!

Planet 1:

Alrighty guys, I am now done with 4 planets! (One of which was in my old design which I trashed)

Planet 2:

This may be difficult to read. Ask if you have any questions

Planet 3:

Planet 4:

Ignore the Planet 3 label (it's from my old design)

Feedback is always appreciated!

To be continued...

I'm liking the aesthetic ideas of the planet, but it's very very plain and nowhere near difficult enough for World 6.

The big piranha plant and the sentry beam add to the difficulty. I do see your point though. Maybe I'll add some difficult platforming between the sentry beam planet and the first part.

I wouldn't worry too much though, because this will eventually have spring Mario, and you already know how I am with difficulty (Think HF >:3)

Sentry beams are nice difficult enemies. You could have the type that shoot a straight laser that follows you.

That's a good idea, though I think for this planet I'm gonna stick with the one I have pictured. Something I considered adding though to make the bridge part difficult is a bird from Fluffy Bluff. Maybe we could retexture it to look metal (that would explain it plummeting to the ground xD)

Using Mobile Sentry Beams here would be pretty nice. Putting them on top of trees maybe?

That would be pretty badass actually. I'll be sure to throw that in this planet and maybe some others.

Another idea I had would be a stationary sentry beam during the spring mario section. Trolololol

I would also like, at the beginning of the first star, no explanation for why this galaxy is the way it is. It should only be halfway through the first star that Mario actually knows why the Gearmos did what they did.

I don't really want there to be a story behind it. People can assume the gearmos made it

Backstory? Lol what? It's just a simple mechanical galaxy. Were there any explanations behind Space Junk and Dreadnaught? No. Not every level needs a backstory.

That's my point. Part of the fun in galaxy is the randomness of everything. Adding stories behind things ruins the imagination aspect

Would sentry beams on top of trees even work?...

The Garden Dome has a meadow on a cliff and there is also Bianco Hills for the nature inspiration.

Inflatable bushes could get you over big metallic multicolored rocks. Actually, why not use inflatable bushes when the Spring Mushroom is not being used?

@Agent: It depends on the trees' size.

I was planning on using inflatable bush

Oh that's genius, the inflatable bush idea xD

Iirc I got the idea from thneedville. I'm pretty sure there were inflatable bushes

As long as you make it clear what they are, make sure the player knows they're inflatable and not just bouncy for no reason.

They will probably be obviously placed, and the textures should give it away.

So in terms of this planet, do you like what you see? Can I get some specific edits you want me to make to it?

Well, perhaps halway through the level, the difficulty will suddenly amp up, with tree barriers, Sentry Beams, and tons of enemies, explained by the Gearmos being bored, then forgetting to deactivate the defenses when they saw Mario? :P

I really like the scenery you're suggesting.
Keep going. :)

Like gc said with amping up the difficulty, a landslide could happen with Chomps falling down a slope of strewn metal. Maybe even have parts of the level slide down, if possible. That would be similar to the Lava Spire from Melty Molten.
