Hey guys, just wanted to post an idea I recently came up with. With the new Kuribo revamp on its way, I've seen discussions regarding karma, post count and other things to determine how we'll incorporate these "competitive" systems with as little problems as possible. I've come up with a system that makes the competition simple and healthy, and I think it would work well for us.

My system idea is a score. Believe it or not, we all have scores already, but nobody seems to care about it. Instead of drama magnets like karma, or spam magnets like postcount competition, we could make a fun system that also keeps the board in shape. (Not to say we should get rid of postcount, just thinking that we should focus the competition somewhere that doesn't cause spam issues)

So here's how it works: Your score starts at zero. Every time a post is liked (a new feature coming in the revamp), you get 5 points. Every time a post is deleted, you lose 5 points. The system would also include badges, except instead of silly view and post achievements, they would encourage quality. For instance, we could have a "most liked post of the month" badge worth 10 points, or even tie in the badges with 2.5 by having best design/song/model/etc. of the month badges worth 15 points. These would be determined by a poll for each category at the end of the month with all of that month's work as options.

People have said that the last part would encourage people to rush their work, but I disagree. If they know that they'll lose quality by rushing, then they won't do it. The average design/model/song only takes a month. Besides, if you really want to take your time, wait till next month. If that means you get better results, then you have a better chance at the badge next month. This system would also encourage people to pace themselves instead of starting something and not finishing (not that I'm innocent with that)

Well that's all I've got for now. Ideas are always welcome!

I'm not a fan of these ideas, these are the things that brought insane drama in the past.

I find that hard to believe seeing that liking posts didn't exist in the past, and that I've never seen best whatever of the month polls.

I think it's worth a shot. People just need to be mature

Can't we just all be equal and not be scurraging for high postcount or liked posts or some crap?

No. Certain users may get extra likes because they are popular, but other users might not get them because they are unpopular. It might get to the point where likes would turn into corruption for favors.

Yeah that's exactly what this could set up to be.

If you dislike some user you could just dislike all of their posts and crap.

Disliked users are typically disliked for a reason. I.e. annoying posts

We also need to expect more maturity than we have in the past.

Yeah. It kinda sounds like High School, tbh, which is not a good thing.

What? xD

Maybe you guys would like based on popularity, but that's just ridiculous. Why are our expectations here so low?

Because I know there are people who tend to start drama, and this system would make it that much easier.

I don't want to be based on popularity, that's why I don't want a popularity system. :|

Well then screw them.

We're making a game, if we can't trust ourselves to be mature about little things like this then we have a serious issue.

And karma literally says "I like you" or "I don't like you"
How is that better?

But it can easily turn into it. It seems like you are trying to turn Kuribo64 into facebook. This is NOT a social networking site :P We have the IRC for that.

Why don't we just make the game and not care about who's posts are liked the most.

This helps the game.

Also, the likes are coming either way. That's already decided.

I don't have a facebook so no :P

You guys don't trust your teammates at all, do you?

1- I do have a facebook.

2- How does this help the game?

3- Most of the people here are untrustable, including myself, we don't need to be trusted to just cooperate and make a game.

We do trust our teammates. Its just that when trust is forced, it isn't trust :P
