That doesn't really make sense anyway mg3, what's the point of silver stars in a linear area? You'll have to go through the linear area fully whether there are things to collect or not :P

Alright, time for my two cents... firstly, great job on the art. I love the design (well... it mirrors my little mockup, so I'm biased), and the idea of having Fiery Gobblegut as the boss is GENIUS. Still, I have some problems I think should be fixed:

1. The silver star idea is problematic. How can you spawn the star from silver stars, and also have the boss spawn a star? Also, silver stars are boring for this area... instead, we could just have the volcano impossible to enter until you get star chips that launch you into it, or something. That doesn't solve the "boring" problem though.

Or just, y'know, let the player work their way up to the volcano. If the level is large enough, that will create enough of the gameplay. We could still have some objective, like reaching a treasure chest in one of the ruptures and getting a key to open up the volcano.

2. Even though I think the fiery gobblegut idea is genius, that sounds really, really tough to play. Also his physics won't work too well in a non-spherical environment and it'll mess with the cutscenes.

Well yeah, we've mostly been tweaking the boss because of that, namely making the inside part its own section for unlimited space using a pipe because of stuff like that. I just haven't edited that in yet AFAIK. I do think that you're right on the first part though, it's kinda flip-flopped. Well, at least we haz more feedback :D

Perhaps the first section could have other volcano/water planets for scenery, erupting, so that meteors rain down. Perhaps, depending on how that works with water and rock.
The Fiery Gobblegut thing...to be honest, I don't think that's such a good idea.
Gobblegut'll keep twisting around, and it'll be nearly impossible to avoid crashing into his coils with the underwater controls. Pretty much, it'd be a really chaotic and near-impossible fight.

And I really suggest you add the tunnels to your design, as it looks like your design might be the one getting approved over mine :/

So it seems like Gobblegut works better in a more smaller and spherical area. I can see that being a issue since the inside of Volcano can't really be very spherical. Like I said before, a Shell might work better for the Fiery Gobblegut fight.

As for the Silver Stars, grabbing a Key from a Chest might be as Glem said. Also, why not have the swim to the volcano play out like a standard platforming section? No Silver Stars, no Star Chips, no required enemy defeating (Boulder Bowl and Battle Belt but Boulder Bowl was more annoying). Just a swim to to volcano and automatically encounter hazards.

Well, I didnt thought about that. Starchips seems better. IIRC, there was a scene somewhere that you could break something when being launched by the launch star. So it could be made that the volcano is blocked by something (a boulder?), and the launch star throws you there and you smash open the top, revealing a pipe (or a warp)

Thought if that cant be done, then we will think something else.

The problem is, since its a water level, linear wont be efective since the player could just swim straight to the volcano. The objective in this case would be the star pieces hidden along the planet, which will maximize the level exploration.

We havent really experienced the underwater fight, but I think its best if there was no water during the fight (since you could escape or go far enough for the boss to glitch...)

I was thinking of the arena to be surrounded inside a big lava sphere, and that the planet in the middle would be a watered surface planet (kinda like those shallow watered sand planets in the beach galaxies)

The Gobblegut issue has a simple solution: simply use a pipe to get into the arena (allowing for it to be a separate area) with lava-cave background and the normal Gobblegut planet in the center. Mario comes out the pipe onto the Gobblegut planet (then the pipe sinks back into the ground). Using the original planet solves size issues, keeps the digging effects from Gobblegut looking fine, and gives a surface to place bubble sources and shells onto. Don't over think this guys; keep the fight exactly the same, except submerged.

Yeah, after thinking it over a while back, the normal planet would look fine. I just gotta do more work revising.

About the players being able to "just swim into the volcano", I see the issue there, but we need to find a creative solution. Look at deep dark, you have a few objectives you need to clear before you can reach the boss. I want this level to have a similar feel. You can either have a bunch of collecting (less fun) or set up obstacles that you simply cannot pass without doing something else first. I suggest requiring the player to open a chest or something with a launch star in it, and then having that lead to a platforming segment above the water, or perhaps on a separate planet with a linear lava/water section before being launch star'd into the volcano.

I agree with Glem here, but there should be multiple objectives to get to the volcano, and still make them fun.

Okay, so I've been focusing on this design today because I want to see it approved soon. I agree with Glem on a few things, and I have an idea to fix the issues.

Like Glem said, replace the silver stars with star chips. However, you could have the launch star take you to another planet that is more linear than the first. It would be dark and have bright glowing lava and some swimming sections.

Then at the end a launch star could take you into the first planet's volcano which would be sticking out of the water (therefore out of reach) and fight gobblegut.

A 2d section is really unfitting. Save that for Sunken

Also just a note for when you revise this. I would make two pictures for the first planet: A front and back view

Remember the details and labels :3
