I would recommend 2.5. The Rectangle Planet that has Silver Stars in Spin-Dig is 2.5D. I can see a nice section happening with Podoboos and Lava! A 2.5D section will also allow for the lava to be in curves or zigzags so that Mario has more to avoid to avoid than just straight lines and slashes.

This was discussed on the IRC, but NWP seemed to reject the idea of me collabing with Grid and NWP. The thing is, I like certain aspects of their design, but their structure is poor, and could be a jumbled mess if handled wrong. If enough of you can back me up, maybe we could convince them to do a collab.

I can see, but it seems too basic. My design has the complexity that would really make this galaxy stand out.

Seems to be basic...things sometimes dont need to be complex, you know :P

Sometimes it's better to just be able to chill and swim around while completing objectives

SMG handles a complex design well by making it somewhat more simple. Those levels that are intentionally simple get somewhat boring. I mean my design is complex in a good way, as Mario travels through different areas on the planet, some open, some linear, and no silver star bullshit. Most of the level is koopa shell dodging flames :3. My visual design also has a really neat concept for the Eastern Crater as well, to give my design a more unique touch.

NWP: My design does just that. I am saying it is not going to be confusing, but unique, dark and fun.

I actually think Maaws and Fiery Gobblegut underwater is already a nice complexity. And besides, maybe the 2.5D section could involve dodging fire with shell-swimming in the future. Remember this is only the first Star of NWP's and Grid's design :3.

Am I the only one that thinks that 2.5D in SMG2 is overrated? While it may work in something like Coastline Cavern, I just don't see it fitting for this galaxy.

We havent finished making the design, do stop assuming things :P

Now, stop talking about your design here, you have the IRC and your thread for that :P

I dont want continuing derailing the thread .-.

Empty space can be fine, but the main issue I am having is the fact that the empty space is water. My design used a lot of rock for filler, and I think it works well :3

I like this design more than MG3's as long as the interior of the volcano is an entirely separate area -- having all that inside the actual planet model would not only be a huge pain to model, but it would also require the planet to be really huge, with probably a lot of empty space.

That's my main problem, actually: the bit with the silver stars seems a bit boring. You should have 5 different specific challenges to get each silver star, not just have them hanging around in the open to find.

and MG3: Never admit your design uses filler.

Hm, I can easily expand upon that, there really wasn't all that much to do really besides swim around and collect stuff. I was also planning to make it a seperate area like you suggested on the IRC.

One idea for a Silver Star location is why mot have it in a spinnun unicorn-like horn? Like the giant conch shell containing the Comet Medal in Cosmic Cove but moving.

Actually, why not have Star Chips in a crate and in four moving objects?

Edit: Also in a clam, perhaps?

When I mentioned filler, it was mainly just stuff on the outside that would hardly be seen at all.

I mean actual, time-taking challenges to get the silver stars, not just set out in the open or in a clam or in boxes. Those take 2 seconds to get and are way too easy for world 5. I'm talking maybe one hidden like that, but the rest in hard-to-get places like in a tunnel or something. At least two should require a shell to access.

Here's just a thought: I think silver stars should be saved for Star 2, because they are more fun to collect in linear areas.

The problem I see is that then the pre-volcano area would become boring :/. I personally like most Silver Star missions and I really like the approach of collecting Silver Stars before fighting Fiery Gobblegut.

How would star 2 be any more linear? :P
