Because tablets (at least Android and Windows 8 tablets) are becoming very close to desktops. A lot of the functionality of a desktop is in tablets nowadays. Processors, graphics cards and chipsets in general are getting smaller and smaller, and pc's will eventually be replaced by tablets.
Believe me, this was very hard to say, I'm a PC gamer and the market being overruled by tablets is what i least want.

I agree, I dislike tablet integration supremely.

…Now try writing a tablet app on a tablet without using a computer for any part of it. Bonus points if it is not purely Java-based.

Virtualization software is ideal if you don't want to use /unrealiable/ WINE. But Boot Camp requires restarts, though, so I would just buy something like Parallels that can run Windows and OS X side-by-side.

It's hell on the RAM if you have less than 8GB, though.

Something I never understood is why a computer that uses the Windows OS is a PC whereas Mac hardware with OS X software is not a PCs. Technically, a portable MacBook Pro is a personal computer, especially when you compare it to a Windows-based supercomputer.

I guess it's just to differentiate things that aren't Macs from things that are Macs. :P
