Ok, it seems like only a few people understand why some other people would possibly prefer OS X, also known as Mac OS, over the various Windows iterations. Well, there are several reasons.

1. Prettiness - This is a weird one, but I know for myself at least that I consider the OS X interface to be a large improvement over the Windows GUI. No start menu, I know, I dislike that too. But the water/graphite themed appearance of the whole thing just feels more high-res and cleaner to me.

2. Software - Ok. I have to admit that the lack of .exe support brings this one down and is probably why so many people hate it. It can't run a wide range of .exe files because they were developed to work with the .NET framework, among others. Often, several popular PC games cannot be run on OS X because of this. Personally, I like the productivity software and actually get high FPS on games like Minecraft, which do have OS X support. Which leads us to our next section...

3. Games - Most people obviously know that Macs don't have games. Hell, there's even a rumor that you can't install Minecraft mods on a Mac! (than explain how the largest modded client ever was made on a Macbook Pro) But besides this, it's true that not many big-name games can be run on OS X. This is why I HIGHLY recommend Parallels Desktop 8 for any Mac user who wants to run Windows games at full FPS on their Mac. :)

Feel free to inject any opinions, or factual errors in this piece.

1. Windows 7 is actually a pretty operating system, and in my opinion, looks better than OS X's monochrome grey windows.

2. Yes, there is productivity software and games availible for Mac, but Windows still has all of that plus more, not making this an actual reason to buy a Mac over a Windows PC.

3. So, your argument is "Mac OS X is better because it can virtualize Windows"? That completely defeats the purpose of saying OS X is better, since like I said before, Windows has the same types of software that are availible on OS X, plus more.

Also, unless your computer is really good, you won't likely get full FPS in a VM. Bootcamp is a better option.

I personally think Macs are faster than Windows. And the Finder is sort of like the Start Menu, but it is a window rather than the popular pop-up textbow that Windows uses. And yes, OS X can run Minecraft mods. Maybe a Macbook Air can't since it is simply a notebook and not a full laptop like Macbook Pro.

I agree 100% with what you just said MN1. And yes, Windows 7 looks much better than OS X.

Dammit, stop saying Macs run smoother than Windows. LINUX RUNS BETTER THAN BOTH. No one has Linux now do they? Dont you think OS X runs smoother because its much more limited?
Besides, if you have a semi-decent pc (a pc for $500 or less, you can run windows smoothly, you dont need to spend $1000+ in order to run one. You are comparing Windows on a shit pc with Mac on a decent pc. If you had Windows running on a $700 pc, you will find that the Windows one runs BETTER for a lower price.

Thats how Apple draws you in. They make you think their os is better, but really, its the same but they compare their os and windows with different hardware.

Well, I expected this. It's not just advertising and marketing. I genuinely enjoy the OS over the other ones that I own. I didn't expect anyone else to.

$ 1200 Macs are as good as $ 500 Windows PC's.

Strangely, a lot of people here prefer macs..And computers are expensive in general here. The cost of a laptop with Windows Vista is almost the same as the cost of an iMac in the US.

If you look at the specs of a iMac or a Macbook Pro, you'll notice that the specs are the same as a low-budget PC ($500 like anthe said).

? what? He was comparing both macs and windows pc's and he demonstrated that pc's are much cheaper. What do you mean you cant beat that? It is very easy to beat that actually :P

Yes, as you can see, the Mac and PC have the exact same specs, but the PC is nearly half the price of the Mac.

True, and pc's can have even better specs.

Um, I always thought Macs were PCs. A MacBook is definitely a PC when compared to a Windows immobile supercomputer.

Anyway, I have not yet seen a Mac that has craahed. And yet, those Macs had a lot data usage and they were not even slow. But that could be because every Windows I have used at any places were all crappy and so, like people have said, I have not seen a good Windows. That is what caused me to believe Macs were better.

Then obviously, you've never used Windows 7. Windows 7 doesn't crash, and has all of the advantages of Windows that I outlined above.

OS X has features different from Windows such as moving to another desktop background. All the desktop icons wilk still be there but the previous background will have open windows and you can open even more windows there. However, using the keyboard to copy and paste is a change from simply right-clicking.

Um...Windows allows you to change your desktop background, and copy and paste using the keyboard.
