Digital Circuit Level Design

By MoreCowbell (with help from Fnar!)

Star 1: Completing the Circuit

Mario lands in this new galaxy, which seems to be set in cyberspace. However, real world electronic devices will also appear in this galaxy.

Planet 1
Mario lands on the first planet of this new galaxy, and notices that the planet he is standing on is a cpu! The first thing that happens is a gearmo spots Mario and says "Hey, do you think you could help a stranger? -Camera moves to topmen- Those spinny guys came 'ere and took apart the galaxy! They turned off the light that provides our power, and set up these crazy fences everywhere! Can you go teach 'em a lesson for us?"

So yeah, the topmen are back, and they've invaded all the technology in the galaxy. Besides the gearmo on the CPU, there isn't anything else except a starbit crystal. Mario walks ahead and sees that his only way forward is by jumping across the yellow moving platforms from sky station. There are two, and there are also electric fences to block the way. Mario jumps across the platforms, and finds himself on a HUGE usb plug. The metal tip is so high that even a triple jump can't reach it! However, there are three topmen there, one of which is a green spring topman. If you can manage to jump on the spring, you will reach the top of the metal tip and grab a 1 up. Then you can keep going. Now, there are three big keyboard keys in a jumbled line. The first one is an "S" key, the second is an "M" and the third is a "G". By now, Mario knows how to long jump, so all he has to do is jump from key to key. On the first and last keys are one topman, and the middle key has a purple electric guy (forget the name ) The last key is also surrounded by an electric fence. If Mario can get by the first three keys, he reaches a wall jumping section. This wall jumping section is made up of three keys. A "2", a "." and a "5". He wall jumps up to a sling star, which shoots him to a big computer mouse. Another one of the purple electric guys are there. THE FOLLOWING IDEA MAY OR MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE: One of the "clickers" of the mouse has a groundpound symbol on it. If Mario ground pounds it, it makes a clicking noise, and a launch star appears. This takes Mario to the next planet.

Planet 2

I was too lazy to draw this one out since it is complicated as a model but not as a planet design:

Planet 3

The third planet Mario lands on is quite small, but it is deceiving. This section will be pretty difficult. The first part of the planet is a rectangular circuit board, on top of which is a maze of electric fences. When Mario walks forward, a silver chomp falls from the sky and lands behind him. Mario now has to lead the chomp through the maze without dying or killing the chomp. If the chomp touches an electric fence, he explodes and another one falls from the sky back at the beginning. Inside of the maze are red topmen, who appear to have invaded cyberspace! Of course, Mario must kill each one if he wants to successfully bring the chomp to the other side. If he can, he will see an opening in the fences that leads right to a giant "1". He sees that he must lead the chomp across a bridge of 1's and zeros, being careful not to let himself or the chomp fall off the side or into the hole in the first zero. The bridge is made up of a 1, a 0, another 1, and another 0. Instead of a gaping hole in the last zero, there is a chomp hole like the ones found in Chompworks. Mario sees that in front of the bridge is a launch star floating by itself in the air. He may be able to long jump the distance, but it is too high to reach. However, there are two plugs connected way above the star, and when Mario gets the chomp in the hole, a cutscene begins. The bottom of the two plugs comes out of the top one, and moves down until it is right below the launch star. Mario can now long jump to the plug, and use its prongs to wall jump up to the launch star! He does this, and is shot to the next planet.

Planet 4

Mario finally gets out of the frustrating planet 3, and now lands on the final part of the mission. This planet is the reason for the star's name, for the goal is to complete the circuit. As you already know, the topmen have taken over the galaxy, and have set up electric fences everywhere to defend themselves (As told by the gearmo)

This planet is literally a giant circuit, with 4 "subplanets": A platform with a switch, a disk (not connected to the circuit), a battery, and a big light bulb. You land on the platform with the switch, and see a gearmo. "These little rascals turned off our light and blocked the switch!" You see, the gearmos rely on this giant light for power, and the topmen have set a glass dome over the switch to turn it on. Because of the lack of light, the background will be dark for the duration of the level.

The goal of this planet is to defeat the last of the topmen. First, you must kill the ones swarming the platform you are on. Since the platform is surrounded by their electric fences, it shouldn't be too hard to do this. Once they are gone, a sling star will appear to take you to the disk planet. This planet is similar to the one found in Rock n' Roll Galaxy, except this time, the disk is surrounded by a glass cylinder. (It appears that the disk is in a case which would normally have more disks inside. There are more topmen on this subplanet. However, there are no electric fences to kill the topmen with. Instead, Mario must hit them into the hole in the middle of the disk. The hole is a bit bigger than a topman, but it will still require some effort. After they are killed, another sling star will appear right under the whole. Now Mario is taken to the battery subplanet, where the last of the topmen rest. Each side of the battery will have electric fences. (Think of each side as a circle. The fences are around the circumference) Also on the battery is another silver chomp, adding to the difficulty. Mario must carefully hit the topmen into the electric fences without getting hurt by the chomp or being electrocuted. If he does, a launch star appears on the battery. This shoots Mario around the big lightbulb (for effect) and back to the platform with the switch. By killing the last of the topmen, Mario has made the glass dome disappear. He hits it, and the light turns on, illuminating the galaxy. The gearmo says something along the lines of "Nice job guy!" and the mission is over. The power star floats out of the light bulb to the platform, and is grabbed by Mario.

hmm...
Dat plug part. TBH I have no fucking idea how I'm going to do that :P
I have to make it realistic.

Hm, that entire chomp challenge seems waaaay too difficult, and too punishing to have to go and do the whole thing again if you screw up.

Well this IS w5, and it's not bad to have a bit of difficulty.

I'm saying it's like the Chompworks' Gold Chomp challenge except much, much harder. Especially with a length that long, this seems too hard for W5.

It's... not even that long :P

Look, it's a small portion of the level, and I think it works

You said the maze is made of electric fences and the chomp will break if it hits one, which means it can't touch a wall. Those would have to be pretty wide passages to make it at all realistic for a player to guide the chomp through successfully. (and your drawing does show the passage being pretty long what with all the twisting and bending of the maze.)

Then they can be wide. No need to trash the whole idea

Hey...um...justwondering... didn't Fnar already do a design for this galaxy?

I see good ideas in both. Maybe both of you could work together and make one design?

Do Chomps break if they touch an electric barrier? I think they could go through in Flip-Swap or Good Egg, but I do not remeber exactly.

If that's the case I'm screwed...

Instead of the fences, bare wires that shock you could work. We might be able to make anything shock you, as Glem3 talked about the blue part of a ciruitboard as being an electricuting area.

Okay guys, the design is finished! Please leave any feedback and ideas you have for the level

Thanks -MC

Great design! The camera part seems a bit short though. But I've got to say, the key part is very creative! For the camera part, is it possible for the screen show a teaser of the next galaxy, Dry Boneyard? It could show a Dry Bones rave party. No, seriously. That would add a comic effect to this level.

:/ a Dry Bones rave party? That would add less a comic effect and more a "what the hell?..." effect.

yeah, I don't think that's a good idea at all... Where did you come up with that anyway? ._o
