I mean if you just want to view and export .dae and .obj files rather than have the entire editing package and all, I think Noesis is a decent program. If you want a modeling package, people tend to recommend Blender (might need plugins for .dae and .obj, not sure but it should be built-in). I use Maya myself, and that comes with free student versions with licenses that last many years, so that's good.

Maya, Blender and 3DSmax are all popular and long-standing go-to's when it comes to game modding. if you look hard enough, you can even find leaked nintendo plugins to fit the game's format.
I don't know what you need, but felt like pointing this out. Sketchup is like the black sheep to said modders for its bad practices (it messes up vertexes or something like that) which will make the importing process much more complicated than it needs to be. |

There's also just experience with Sketchup. I'm guessing less people even know how to use sketchup compared to Blender or Maya or Max, so troubleshooting problems in Sketchup's even more difficult.
Anyhow those leaked nintendo plugins sound neat for me lol; they're probably built for Maya though, since Nintendo uses Maya for modeling in many instances. |
