It's not really a discovery, if it glitches and was never intended to happen.

but meh.

If it wasn't known before, it can be considered a discovery :P

Anyway it's still good to know, when making levels and such.

The Red Koopa walks in circles and its shell can home in on enemies. The Blue Koopa acts like a green one, and its shell turns green when you pick it up and the Koopa doesn't respawn.

However, the GIANT Blue Koopa will give a coin when defeated, unlike the red and blue ones.

The Blue Koopa Troopa wasn't a planned enemy, it's a coloring specification for Koopa Shells.

If you didn't notice, in SMG1, when Cosmic Mario picked up a Shell in an underwater race, it would be blue.

Since the shell still has the color if a certain obj_arg is triggered, then it means it's a mere leftover. Of course the Blue Koopas wouldn't exibit new behavior. Heck, I was the one who thought it was only the Large Blue Koopa that gave out a coin, I was wrong, Green and Red can do the same.

The Shell isn't related to Cosmic Mario, read this thread: http://supermariogalaxy2-5.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=experiment&action=display&thread=910&page=3 (I know you've already read it but still, it explains the Cosmic Mario thing)

And you're right about the behavior, I'm sorry I didn't cite you as a source. I know it's not a beta enemy, but it's there for a reason, and you can't just color Koopas like anything :P. I was saying we just might be able to use it for something, even if it is background decoration.
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

Yeah, that's my thread, where I stated it is the same shell Cosmic Mario picks up. :P

But we could make it into an actual enemy, if when Mario picked it up it didnt become green.

o.o
Well, It seems that an empty red shell exists in SMG2's code as well.

Wrong.
obj_arg0 and 1 to 1 spawns a red for me.

O.o IT DOESN'T HOME IN ON ENEMIES!

That's originally what I thought with the red koopas, but then i figured out it did. Weird.

Yeah, probably because they didn't get fully coded into SMG2, but the Koopas did.

That's actually strange, because most of the code in SMG2 is exactly the same as the code in SMG1. Nintendo most likely reused the entire SMG1 code and made some changes. While they have taken some things out (like Cataquacks, many bosses, and other objects), it doesn't make much sense that they would bother taking out a small part of code for one object that isn't even used in that many SMG1 levels. Can anyone check if in SMG1, Empty Red Shells home in on enemies?

It does. I've played the game before Marionumber1 :P

Well, i found it out,

Red Shells only home in on certain enemies, usually aquatic enemies, probably why they were used so much in water galaxies.

Or I could be completly wrong, but hey, I tried a Red Koopa, and it still wouldn't home in.

Why would it do that...?

Wait, how could the game know what's a water enemy and what isn't? 0.o

It's not really what the game determines, the enemy is programmed to act to certain enemies in a certain way. that's why you get crashes a lot when messing with stuff that wasnt meant to be messed with. It doesn't have any code for how handle it so it goes into an OSPanic state, and freezes
